    Re: Milly is limping again.

Sorry Rachael. We have had a very busy weekend. I do have some pics. I will try to get them up tomorrow. Milly is doing well though very unhappy about being in the crate. Matt was able to make a roof for her play pen today so she looks a lot more comfortable in there. Not at all happy but at least she can move around a bit and have water all the time. Vet said she needed to slim down a little more so she is even more unhappy about that ;D. I hadn't thought about it but Apparently the powdered supplement she is on has a lot of calories which I hadn't factored in so it's less food by quite a bit for miss Milly. she wasn't coping at all with the pain meds so we have stopped them all together. She doesn't appear to be in much, if any, pain which is great. She does have a rash on the shaved area under her arm with I think might be like a shaving rash we get. So that's bugging her a bit. She hasn't shown any interest at all in the actual wound so I haven't had to use the cone at all. We are all happy about that ;D but overall she is doing very well.

Great to hear that she is coping with it, even if she doesn't love being in the crate... Poor girl, being ordered on a diet :)

Glad to hear she is doing well. :) :) :)

You can get a cream from the vet for the rash if it doesn't clear up.

Lochan advised me to use sudacrem (sp ?) on Millie when she had a rash after her spay, it worked a charm , hoping your poor love gets lots better soon x

Thanks guys. Thanks for the rash tip. Sounds like it's very common. I will try the suedo cream.

    Re: Milly is limping again.

Have any of you used a specific joint care dry food (kibble). I was recommended to start Milly on one of these but I'm unsure if I want to go back to dry full time. At the moment I feed the raw barf patties, raw meaty bones, sardines and eggs with a small amount of dry food in between but mostly a raw diet with sashes blend. Am I actually going to benefit anymore from changing over? Maybe weight could be maintained easier? I'm not sure. Anyone feed this type of food? Benefits? Disadvantages? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

That pen set up looks ideal. Lovely girl, I hope she heals up quickly and it's not too stressful for you all. Big hugs.

I think that the joint care foods often have added supplements - fish oils and/or glucosamine and chondroitin and so on. If you wanted to add these to her diet, no reason why you shouldn't just feed a supplement. They are usually in such concentrations in supplements that you wouldn't be able to feed those amounts in fresh food.

Charlie is on synoquin efa - it's a long term commitment though, not something to stop and start. The cost is about £15 a month. The evidence for effectiveness is mixed. Charlie's surgeon said he would have his dogs on it, but I had to be aware it was not necessarily going to do any good.

Thanks Julie. She is on Sashes blend which is probably the same thing and yes for the rest of her life. She will also be getting injections starting next week. Once a week for 4 weeks then maybe once a month or up to 6 monthly depending on how she goes latter on. At the moment you wouldn't even know she had surgery. She is full of energy.
