I can't quite believe what a lovely place this is to stop and chat, and how nice everyone is to one another!

So it might seem a bit strange to start talking about moderators and rules :D but here goes!

    We are getting bigger!

The forum has grown a lot lately, and is growing faster than ever right now. Posts have increased by 50% compared with April and the number of new members has doubled. I know we don't have any 'trouble' here, but I feel it is being a little complacent to simply assume that we will always continue to trundle along as we always have.

I have to accept that at some point, someone will post something horrid, obscene, or otherwise offensive, or will start a 'fight' and that I just might not be here to remove it or step in, before it upsets someone.

So, I have decided to ask a few of our long standing members to help by acting as moderators. This means that they will have the power to edit and if necessary delete other people's posts. Obviously such powers must be used with great restraint and care.

    Our new moderator team

Rather than try and set up rotas or anything complicated, I though the best idea was to ask enough people that there would normally be one of us around on any given day.

I decided to invite six people and am delighted that they have all accepted. Hopefully with seven of us around, the chances of anything nasty being left on the boards is fairly slim. And hopefully we won't need to step in at all. But will be there as a safety net.

You will be able to use the 'report' button if you see something unpleasant on the boards, and that will send an email to the moderators, so that they can check it out. At least that is the theory, but please bear with me whilst I feel my way around and make sure it all works

    The rules!

A moderator's role is essentially to make sure that we all abide by the forum rules, and play nicely. But right now we don't have any rules!

The next step is for a set of rules to be drawn up.

I will be putting putting up a brief set of rules shortly, and you are all invited to comment and make suggestions as to what else, if anything, should be in them.

I'll be testing the moderator system over the next day or two and will announce the new moderators soon.
    So watch this space ;D

I think this is a great idea, Pippa. I have been struck by what a wonderful site this is, and how kind and caring people are. I love catching up,on here every day now, and it would be such a shame for anything to spoil it. You do an amazing job with this site!
