Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Poor Molly and poor you. Your right it doesn't matter what it is if she will eat it let her. I know this is a worrying time but when I was in a similar position with Murphy, worrying if I was doing the right thing with all his meds etc, a friend told me you will know when it's time. She was right I did. I know it's hard try not to worry about it just enjoy being with her you will know because you know your dog.
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Sorry to hear the improvement hasn't lasted I know you will do everything to make her as happy and comfortable as possible and I hope you eventually find food that tempts her.
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! My best wishes to you during this very stressful time. I feel for you and hope that Molly shows improvement.
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Ah Nancy I'm just closing down for the night ....sorry to read Molly has taken a dip,I know you will be giving her every comfort you can big hug x
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! I almost put Molly down last night. She was really crashing - staggering around like a slo-mo pinball, very subdued, appeared to be in pain, wasn't eating, her abdominal area was swollen, though she hasn't been eating in several days. I returned to the dose of steroid that seemed to help before and thought I'd give her another day or two. This morning, rather than put her out with the other dogs in the garage/kennel, I made a bed in the mud room. My husband put her in when he left around 8:45. I skipped a staff meeting after school today and came straight home, so she was alone for about 7 hours. When I opened the back door, Molly was collapsed on the floor, bleeding from the mouth, with the cord of the vacuum cleaner totally twisted around her neck, across her chest, and looping over a front leg. God knows how long she was like that... She was inert and I thought she was dead. She wasn't, but she wasn't in good shape. The cord was not tight anywhere, so she wasn't strangling, but she was completely ensnared. How she got into a fight with the vacuum cleaner, I don't know. I think she probably staggered into it at some point, knocked it over, got caught in the loose cord, then continued staggering and struggling until she was totally tangled up, at which point she just collapsed. My imaginings of it are pretty awful... I got her untangled and checked her mouth. She had a huge hematoma under her tongue, and blood pooling under the skin of her throat. I would guess that she fought that damn cord until she was exhausted. You can only imagine the beating up of myself I'm doing right now... I supported her in getting up, and had to support her outside into the grass, where she peed nasty-colored urine, then collapsed in the grass. I called the vet and told them we were coming in, probably for euthanasia. Got to the vet and she couldn't walk in, so the vet carried her in. He was very kind and totally agreed that it was time. He said there were things we could do to ease the immediate trauma, but the ataxia and all the other liver disease symptoms would only get worse. The awfulness today maybe speeded things up a few days, but not more - it was just a dreadful way for her to have spent her last day!! It was time. She was euthanized around 4:15. I'll get her ashes back in about a week and will scatter them in the treeline with Dante, my other oldster who I put down on Valentine's Day in 2011. Not a good few days. Thank god for Daisy and Henry!
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Oh, Nancy, how utterly awful. Words fail. So sorry that you had to come home to that, what an awful sight it must have been. Try not to beat yourself up about it - hard not to, I know, but you were trying to do her a kindness by making a safe place for her to be. These things happen, and as the vet said, it was just her time to go. If it hadn't been that it would have been something else. Sending you hugs and sympathy, I've said goodbye to two pups now and I know how hard it is. :'(
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Oh Nancy,I'm the same as Lisa,I don't know what to say,I've got tears splashing down the iPad writing this ,I'm so sorry x
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! I'm so sorry Nancy. What a terribly heart wrenching day. You did your absolute best. It's always so easy to find things to beat ourselves up with, but try not to. You don't deserve it. Molly had the best possible life with you. Big hugs.
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Thinking of you and sending the warmest wishes your way that you cope through this awful time, and good memories of your lovely girl push out the bad ones of the final day in time. :'( :'( :'(
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! I echo what Lisa says. You have done so much for Molly in making her as comfortable as you could. Sending you big hugs at this difficult time xx
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Nancy I'm so sorry. Please don't blame yourself for anything. That's easy to say and hard to do I know but try and remember Molly running about, happy, playing and having a lovely time because that's what her life with you was. When you find yourself thinking about what happened stop, remember something funny she did and smile. Eventually you will just think about the funny things. Take care. xx
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Oh Nancy I'm so sorry to hear about Molly :'( Try to remember the happy life and times she had with you. She's not suffering any more. Sending hugs
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! A truely awful thing for both of you. Whenever it happens we wonder if we could have done more. You were very quick and decisive in helping her and though it was not what you wanted, you showed your love for her by doing the unselfish thing and saving her further suffering. xx Tina
Re: Molly in Minnesota is sick! Oh Nancy. I wish I could say something that would help you. You loved Molly and did the very best for her. Remember that. {{{{{hugs}}}}} xxxx
