Hi everyone... My black lab Dexter is 21 weeks old. Over the past few weeks it has become and frequent occurance that I have come down to the kitchen to find he has been sick (more white phlem than food). Seems to be early mornings. He is currently on 3 feeds a day (7, 1 and 7pm). I am wondering if perhaps its because he goes almost 12 hours without food so his tummy is giving like an acid reflux. I gave him some banana before bed last night and came down to no sick this morning. A friend of mine said her pup had the same and the vet reckoned it was common.

Hi Jo, i think you have hit the nail on the head!
Too much acid can definitely lead to this morning sickness, and several members on this forum have had this same problem.
Just a small amount of kibble near bedtime is often enough to help.
Our lab gets a couple of "gravy bones" at bedtime. She doesn't complain :D

We've never suffered the acid reflux phlegm but have always given a couple of small biscuits at bedtime as part of the daily food intake.

Our old dog Belle suffered with this, so we saved a tiny bit of her dinner for supper, on the advice of her vet. Coco now continues the tradition, we can hardly just stop it - he expects his supper!

Yes Cassie does this, usually when I'm a bit later up, I shall increase her "night night" snack now when I know I'm likely to have a lie in.

Pongo always has a "bedtime biscuit" after his last walk round the garden when I put him to bed for the night. It's a treat (from CSJ) which is meant to be good for digestion, and it has completely cleared up his occasional "gas attacks", so I think it really does help to settle his stomach overnight. They are his favourite treats.

Harley has 'munch time' around 9/9.30pm which consists of a few biscuits as she used to be sick in the mornings. We started munch time when she was a few months old and now at nearly 4 years old she starts 'the prowl' from 9pm :D

When Cooper was a puppy she did this several times when she had an empty stomach. Almost guarantee that it is nothing more than that. Try a late night snack or an early breakfast, and see if that cures it. I think it is mostly a puppy thing. None of our dogs have ever had this once they were 6 or 7 months old.

My two also have a little supper , just a few bits of kibble , I do think it helps them to sleep , or maybe that just sounds quite stupid ! x My daughter in law actually buys biscuits labelled as Bedtime Sleepy Biscuits , they cost almost £4 for about 12 , so maybe I`m not so potty after all !
