Not sure where to put this so hopefully it's ok in this section!

I will be moving house very soon, provisional date is 18th December and were still all ok track so looking likely to go ahead on this date. This gives us a little over three weeks to pack up the house etc.

I'm just after a few tips on how to help Penny cope with the move and disruption. I'm getting her crate back out for a week or so beforehand so she can get used to it again and hopefully it will help her adjust to the new house too. I will be buying an adaptil collar for her to wear for a few weeks and I have some adaptil spray for her bedding etc too.
I think she will cope fine with the move but I just want to try and make this as easy for her as possible!
We are paying the movers to come in the day before to pack up but I will be at work. Hubby will be home but will have to work or help the movers.
On the day of the move itself my mum has offered to look after her so I'm wondering if it's a better idea to ship her off to my mums in the morning and then go get her in the evening once we are all settled in the new house?

    Any advice gratefully received!!

As someone who has moved numerous times, including between countries , my advice would be not to worry too much about Penny :) Just try to keep her routine as normal as possible in the hectic days before your move ,very important . If Penny is used to going to your Mums, then I think having her there is a blinkin` good plan as she will be one less to worry about on the big day . I think you truly will be surprised at how quickly she settles once she smells familiar items , her bed and of course, her food , good luck :)

I second what Katie said. We've moved a couple of times, Belle took it in her stride. It is good if she can be at your Mum's when all the actual moving men activity is going on, otherwise act normal.

Definitely send her to your Mum's for moving day. Otherwise, just carry on as normal :)

Hope it all goes really well.

I would think just like going on holiday with her she will sniff around a bit then settle down - anywhere you are is home.
    Good luck

Charlie moves around a fair bit - I don't always have to be in London, and if I don't, we leave. He also goes away a fair bit and stays in holiday cottages and hotels. It takes him about 5 minutes to settle down in a holiday cottage. Once his bed and water bowl are unpacked, he's cool. Takes him longer in a hotel room, but still not very long.

I reckon she'll be fine. Good luck with the move.

Wishing you well with the move and I'm sure Penny will be fine. My move starts on Monday, not worried about Juno for the travel and settling my concern at the cats!

We moved earlier this year. We sent Holly on holiday the day before the move and got her back the day after. Moving with her would probably have been stressfull for her and us. When she arrived at the new house she had a good sniff around, but once she knew where her bed, bowl and poop spots were she quickly settled in.
I hope the move goes well, and look forward to hearing all the stories at our next SW walk.

Thanks everyone. It's reassuring to hear how well and quickly other pooches have settled in after a move! You're all right when you say that anywhere we are she will be happy!
It's weird but I'm not so worried about the cat... Because I don't have anywhere to take him (my mum has two dogs so he can't go there as they don't like cats) he's going to have to just stay in his carrier while I sort out a room to shut him in whilst the movers are going in and out.

Hiya, we moved at the end of september and maisie went to her daycare for the day so she was out of the way. Once we had set up our bed amd the sofa (the things that smelt normal and of home) then she came back and was fine. We had set up the living room basically exactly the same as at the house before, and it was funny because she was running around sniffing for about 5 minutes obviously thinking all our stuff is here but its different! We took our cat to the cattery for the week over the move because I just didnt want ro be worrying about him escaping or getting freaked out. We kept him in for 2 weeks after the move before he was allowed outside, he loves maisie and so he stays where she is. We didnt have movers and hired a van and did it ourselves which was abit silly and added to the stress. I think you sound like you are sorted with movers!
    Good luck with it all!
