    OK, Harvey is quite the sniffer when we are on our walks (I'm sure he is not alone in that). However, sometimes he feels the need to lick whatever it is that he is smelling and, frankly, some of it isn't very pleasant (eg other dogs' pee). Is this normal? ::)

    Sadly, yes, normal ::)

    I too am always saying "Do you HAVE to lick that?"....

    Dogs can be so dog-like sometimes :)

    Nope, Riley doesn't lick - unless you have food when he might just lick your fingers but that's it! How wierd is that!!!!

    Any of your dogs constantly try and lick peoples hands? Our 1 year old boy is /always trying to do this especially guests. I really want to stop bhim doing this.

    Any suggestions ?

    Hands are generally safe, feet not so much! Makes for an interesting work day in an office full of women in their summer sandals!

    Lilly is a keen hand-licker, feet not so much, which is a shame for OH - his old dog was a foot connoisseur :D
    Lilly isn't a wet licker though (if that makes sense). Don't necessarily have to go and wash the drool off after a good licking. Few moments and all dry.
    But just to reassure you guys, I do then was my hands before preparing food (mostly ;D )

    We have the two extremes.....Riley doesn't link AT ALL ! Unless you're withholding food and then he's just as likely to nibble gently. Whereas my in-laws dog licks A LOT ! So much so I wonder if it's some kind of nervous habit as if he stays for a few days he becomes noticeably less licky.
