Hi I have a beautiful 2 year old black lab girl. Since she started her 2nd season 2 months ago and since then she's been very anxious and noise sensitive. It's worrying and I'm hoping it's hormone related. I've decided to have her spayed in May. Has anyone had any similar experiences with young females becoming extremely anxious while they're in / post season? Would be good to hear from others ...

It's only to be expected that a bitch will become anxious when in heat as many glands in their bodies start acting in different ways. But she should calm down again afterwards.

She may have an overactive gland or a gland that's 'stayed' triggered, or it could even be a phantom pregnancy. I'd nip her to the vets and explain the circumstances, just to be on the safe side.

The vet thinks she's had a phantom pregnancy. It's been upsetting to watvh my confident outgoing intelligent gitl turn to a bag of nerves at times ...

Oh I’m so sorry. I feel for you watching her personality change so much. I have a 2 yr old lab who gets fearful and anxious around strangers and her personality is nothing like that with me. She has been spayed and I hope she doesn’t need hormone help.

Hi Debbi. It can be really sad seeing your dog's personality change around strangers, can't it :(. Has she been with you long? I wonder if a bit of socialisation practice might be helpful for you?
