My 3 months old shihtzu 6 lbs swallowed a rawhide!

    my 3 months old puppy 6lbs swallowed a rawhide , he whined the moment he swallow it and ran to get some water . He been acting fine, he pooped and he’s still eating and sleeping . I called two vets and they said if he’s not vomiting that means he’s ok and no need to go to emergency . Has anyone experienced this before? I’m scared to go sleep now cause I want to keep my eyes on him .

    Since dogs can digest raw bone, I think the acid and enzymes in their stomachs will cope fine with a piece of raw hide. Keep an eye on him, but I really wouldn't worry.

    However, do be warned that raw hide is not a healthy chew for dogs. It is deep-fried in fat. It contains formaldehyde - usually used to preserve dead bodies - and other chemicals. So, for other reasons, I wouldn't give more raw hides.

    Instead look at chews like Yak chews; deer antlers (only until he loses his puppy teeth); Kongs etc.
