My yellow lab will be 9 in June. Since October 2023 she has had sores under her chin that the vet has treated with cerasoothe chx+ket wipes and anitbiotics. The antibiotic clears it up for a short while and I continue to use the wipes on her twice a day. I thought I finally had it under control but last week when I was cleaning her chin, I noticed one small dot next to the original spot and then a larger circle of ooze under the old spot. I contacted the vet and they put her on antibiotics again. For reference, she is on Apoquel daily and has been for 7 years, Proin ER for spay incontinence, Sentinel once a month and Bravecto every 12 weeks. I wash all of her bedding, stuffed toys and towels with Dreft and no fabric softeners. I wash her bowls daily as well. She is also on a sensitive stomach, senior formula of dog food. It has gotten to the point that her entire chin no longer has hair and it's breaking my heart. I am at a loss as to why this is happening and my vet doesn't have any answers but anitbiotics and wipes. Has anyone experienced something like this and how did you get a handle on it? I also have a 6 year old chocolate that has no issues and is only on heartworm and flea and tick meds. I am hoping someone can give me some advice so I can help my poor baby.

Hi there. This sounds very frustrating for you. If your vet isn't able to help any further, then a good next step might be to get a second opinion from another vet? Or to ask your vet if they can refer you to a specialist?

As a human acne sufferer, I'm a big fan of skin specialists!

As this has been going on for nearly 6 months and is probably miserable for you and your dog I would ask to be referred to a dermatologist. It sounds like she has allergies(apoquel) and a dermatologist may be able to get to the bottom of what they are and treat that with something like cytopoint.
