Happy half a year Rolo! Can't believe he is 6 months old already. We are still biting. We are still jumping up and counter surfing and snatching stuff. Our recall is usually fantastic but yesterday he decided to ignore everything I was saying and nearly knocked over a lady with a walking stick (Can you imagine if he had been succesful, doesnt bear thinking about) and get a bite from a scottie dog! Teenage behaviour perhaps? When pay day arrives I'm going to invest in a acme whistle. Just started clicker training, late starter but better late than never! Re: My baby is 6 months old today! Handsome fella! It's amazing how quickly the time passes after those first few long/sleep deprived weeks. Kenzi is now 1 and she's still jumping up and doing the occasional counter surf and her recall can be severely tested by other dogs/scavenging but thankfully the biting is now just an occasional nibble of the ear when she's giving you a cuddle

I have a book by a gundog trainer who never does any training at all until the pups are 7 months old, believing they have a lot to learn from just experiencing puppyhood. I am sure there are a lot of adult dogs that have done well starting late. Happy 6 months milestone - have cake ... and wine. Not whine :

Re: My baby is 6 months old today! He is gorgeous! His grandfather is very closely related to Casper... Benson was a real challenge at 6 months, and got worse at 7/8 months. Now are coming through the other end, and his really is doing well, so there is light at the end of the tunnel, just keep plugging away at training and it will get better!
Re: My baby is 6 months old today! CONGRATULATIONS! And Happy Birthday....he is beautiful. Oh, I should say handsome!! Mine is almost 11 months old and he still jumps excitedly at people. He still does not counter surf because he is not allowed in the kitchen or the other part of the house,except for the family room...which is very large and gives on to the garden. But he is a destroyer of things. He will destroy a towel, a toy, a blanket, a doggie bed in minutes. I am hoping this DOES go away (as the biting has) at one point in his life. The only toys that remain whole are Kongs. His crate has absolutely nothing in it. I do clicker training and some whistle on the beach. By law he has to be on leash except on the beach. Hope he and you have a wonderful celebration today.

[/quote] Wow that's great. I have been thinking about ways to contact Rolo's siblings owners to see how they are getting on and to see pictures. I'm not sure if they would be interested tho.

Well, one is a friend of ours anyway and then there's a lovely couple who took one of the other bitches who we email on occasion and exchange pictures. I'm sure the other owners would love to see and hear how Rolo is getting on!

My hubby was talking to a customer at his work who also has a 6 month lab, the customer was saying that her dog doesn't jump up and doesn't chew things he shouldn't and doesn't pull his lead he came home saying why can't Rolo be like that. lol
Re: My baby is 6 months old today! Happy 6 months Rolo!!! He is a handsome boy for sure...I love the deep rich chocolate color and he has a beautiful head. My Bella is a much paler shade of chocolate and has a very slender face and short silly ears. : But I love they they are all unique. I think as long as you are doing training, that things will improve over the long term...by the time we all have 3 year olds....they'll be mostly perfect darlings and the dogs we expected when we picked up their squirmy little butterball bodies at 8 weeks! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Re: My baby is 6 months old today! Tbh I think she wasn't being totally honest. I mean he sounds to good to be true doesn't he? Rolo is so dark he gets mistaken for a black lab daily. I agree I love how unique they all are.

Walking Benson and Casper the other day, met a yellow lab, 5 years old (and fat..) the owner smiled benignly at Benson and said..."Aw a choccy lab, they are a nightmare..aren't they..?" I said smiling.."no, not really, he just needs lots of training" To which she replied.." Well I never trained my lab..."smiling fondly at her dog " My old dog did all the training..." You just can't win can you? ;D ;D
