The rules about this are absolutely ridiculous I agree. We are able to quarantine Larks on our property but she isn't supposed to leave the premises for 10 days. I'm already so angry that this happened and not being able to take my dog out and about is making it 100 times worse. I think it's outrages that the bitten dog is watched but the attacking dog isn't. Ugh.
I can't believe how many times this dog has attacked. So glad you guys are ok. But enough is enough. You will never feel comfortable leaving your yard with this dog loose. Good luck and do update us!
So true! I was nervous that she wouldn't even want to go out to take a walk the next morning but she acted compleatly normal and like nothing had even happened! She's such a good little girl!
What an awful situation for you. The quarantine rule makes no sense whatsoever. I do hope you are all okay x
Sorry to hear what happen to you and Lark hope you both soon get over this terrible attack. Sending you both Hugs
that sounds rather silly. dogs suspected of rabies can manifest rabies symptoms quickly which leads to death. these "suspected" dogs will have brain tissue examined to see if they actually have rabies after they die. it may take people on the other hand days to years before rabies symptoms appear depending where you are bit and how far away from the brain it is. no point quarantining a person. i hope your husband has started the rabies series. you don't want a nasty surprise a decade from now. i have witnessed a person infected with rabies at the end stage when she had aerophobia (fear of air). she could hardly breathe because she was afraid of the surrounding air. the hospital said she would die soon.
Hi there, What a horrible fright for you,I'm so glad that none of you were more seriously injured .I'm glad your other neighbour came to visit ,although sorry they've had a similar experience. At least you have some local support now which is a confidence boost to proceed with a complaint. Best of luck x
A year ago, a Golden Retriever was attacked by a pair of Pit Bulls in Multnomah Village. Apparently they had done this before, and were known for being loose and attacking other dogs. the Golden owner killed both dogs on the spot, and there were no repercussions.
Gosh, that terrifies me. There are enough people out there who think that a happy-go-lucky Labrador coming to say hi is a rabid killer that it sets a scary precedent.
The Golden's care cost several $1000 at the emergency hospital, so this was not a happy go lucky dog that just ran by. The Golden did recover, but it was close. The Pit Bull's owner had been warned before about letting them run loose.
That's not what I'm concerned about. It sounds like, yes, it was a dangerous dog. But it's still a terrifying precedent when there are so many people who think that a normal, over-excited, friendly dog is vicious. How many of those could be killed in a similar scenario, just because someone didn't understand the difference?
Absolutely, I find this just awful with too many grey areas for what could be just a happy, bouncy dog wanting to say hello. I also don't agree with shooting any dog even a vicious one as taking the law into your own hands is not on. There are always procedures to follow and thank goodness we don't carry guns in the UK. x
