Very sad update on our Stog, Nanda, and I'm sitting here in tears. She has stopped eating again and this time the vet says it is just her time. She was rescued when she was about two but no one is sure, which means she could be well over the 12.5 years on her passport...so...her person has decided not to take her to the vet again as it really traumatises her. Nanda is happy and peaceful sleeping in her person's bed and comfortable, but not eating or drinking. I haven't known her long, but this is just really, really sad and I feel so badly for her person.

Tomorrow I was going to have to go say my last goodbyes anyway as I'm returning to Germany. I'd already been crying over saying goodbye to Tiger...but now Nanda too...this is awful. I hate goodbyes of any sort, but these are the hardest. I wish all our pups could all be happy, loved and live forever. :(

Thanks to all for the kind words. Nanda is indeed one of the lucky pups, especially lucky considering she started out as a working Galgo, which pretty much have the worst of the lot of all the Spanish breeds. She got her stay of execution 10 years ago when her person literally intercepted and haggled with her former owner in the vets' waiting room as she was brought in to be euthanised due to a wound on her leg that he didn't want to pay to have treated.

She then started her "second life" and officially retired as a hunter and has had a gentle and peaceful reign over her person's doggie kingdom from the throne of her sofa ever since. If your former job was running full tilt, it stands to reason that "retirement" has meant moving as absolutely as little as possible. Smart girl.

I will try to enjoy my last visit with her tomorrow and give her, Tiger, Nora and all the pups on the ranch all the cuddles possible.

    Such sad news :(
I hope her last days are peaceful and comfortable. She will know that she is loved, that's the most important thing of all.

I'm so sorry to read this @Emily_BabbelHund. I'm so sorry for you and Nanda's person, for Nanda herself.

I hope that you are distracted by the other doggies (and Tiger's beautiful big nostrils -- I just love his nose! I was reading about poorly-bred squashed-nose types and how their nostril openings are barely slits that don't open).

Sending a big kiss to Nanda and hugs to you. Thinking of you.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about the lovely Fernanda. I hope that she's peaceful and comfortable. Her poor owner, having just gone through the worry of the recent illness, only to go downhill again so quickly. Hugs to you, what a sad note to leave Spain on.

I just heard from Nanda's human, and Nanda passed away this morning at 1:30am in her arms, being loved and petted. She was peaceful and not in any pain, it was just her time. I'd like to think she's now again free, young and healthy, running around as much as she wants on all four legs and enjoying the best sofa-throne the doggie afterlife has to offer.

I'm grateful I had the chance to know such a sweet girl.
