i have 3 and have had a very tidy kitchen as a result we also have no bins in the house and the bins we have are kept locked away. All food is behind locked doors and the fridge has one too. I do leave it, clicker training etc but they will do it if youre not around they just will so think ahead and you won't loose you dinner

Hi everyone, I think I need most of the training thats why this forum is so good. I have been telling Riley off for steeling things off worktops especially tee towels and oven gloves and slippers left on the floor, leaves out of the garden the list goes on, but this only leads to her running around the house like a lunatic she then thinks this is a great game. Then we put her behind the naughty gate to calm down for 10min. I am now going to try the swap for a treat tactic. But why does all this mayhem seem to happen in the middle of all the best TV shows. Work that one out. :)

Just to add, rewarding a delivery to hand can increase the likelihood that a young dog will pick things up but this is no longer a nuisance because he always brings them straight to you and puts them in your hand. This is much better than getting into a battle with a dog over an issue he doesn't understand at all. It also avoids the risk of your dog swallowing something unsafe because he doesn't want to give it to you. All this is explained much more clearly in the article linked above.
