Digby was castrated yesterday and he is not himself He's 10 months and had become overwhelmed by his testosterone driven urges - after a frank discussion with the vet we decided it was the best thing to do. He even tried to hump the vet when he went to do the anaesthetic :-[ Well, he was pretty sleepy yesterday evening, but this morning seems most confused. He can't settle and is crying which I have NEVER heard him do before-poor lad. He's eating, his wound looks fine and he has painkillers so I suppose its just the after effects of the anaesthetic and op. I have read many people say their dog just bounced back by the next day-anybody had a dog that took a bit longer? Shall be keeping a very close eye on him.
Re: My metrosexual boy! Oh dear poor love... Not had any experience myself, but a neighbour had their hairy Spanish sheepdog (not sure of the breed...) neutered a few months ago, and he was VERY agitated for a couple of days afterwards. It wore off after a day or so, and then he was completely back to normal. Just a word of warning - he still tries to hump Poppy on occasions... though much less than he used to!! Get well soon, Digby.
Re: My metrosexual boy! Please dont worry , Sam was exactly the same after his snip . He cried and cried, only settling when I dragged a single mattress into the sitting room and turned off all the lights . I think the GA affects some dogs more than others , they dont like the confused state at all . Give him today and see how he goes, also what helped Sam was a very very short lead walk up the lane the day after , just for him to see that all was normal, just five mins but it helped to settle him down, hoping Digby is soon back to normal x
Re: My metrosexual boy! get well soon digby keep me posted how he gets on, my little fella going for it done on the 26th july,......i like to read the post then i can prepare my self what to expect
Re: My metrosexual boy! Poor little man. I hope he is feeling much better tomorrow. Sending him pats!
Re: My metrosexual boy! Update for you Lynne, Digby stopped moping round and crying yesterday evening. Seems much more himself today. He does keep trying to lick it, which is fine when I'm around to stop him but was worried when I have to leave him for school runs and the like. Tried the cone of shame but he went bonkers trying to bash his head against things so instead I am leaving him crated (as usual when I'm out), wearing one of my husbands t-shirts. He's not keen and hates moving too much in it which seems to be working ok. Took him on a very short walk round the block, only 5-10 mins but loads of trees and lovely smells.
Re: My metrosexual boy! Ah that's good ,glad hes better and hope his wound doesn't bother him too much x
Re: My metrosexual boy! Hope it all goes well - glad to hear that so far it's good!! That bashing sound ... Shudder....
Re: My metrosexual boy! He is fine thanks. Getting a little stir crazy if anything. Currently doing the deathly head shake on an empty amazon package I left in reach!
Re: My metrosexual boy! Ah yes killing the Amazon box. We have that problem here too. She got the contents of the recycling yesterday and "killed" it all over the garden. Just finished clearing it all up with the mower. ;D
