Good Morning, I have a 13 week old puppy who refuses to walk outside. We have tried everything..... *lots of praise, treats and rewards *someone walking infront of us encoraging him to walk to them *taking our older dog out with us to walk with him *we have now bought him a harness instead of the collar (which he hated) I would really appreciate any suggestions
This is not unusual at all. Just wait, let him take it all in, he’ll move when he’s ready. Then treat when he chooses to move. Another tip is to carry him just a few yards away from home then he’ll likely walk back, extend it by a little each day. He’ll soon be very keen for walkies, I promise!
He's a baby and probably a bit overwhelmed! Just give it time. Don't think about "going on a walk" at the moment, just think of it as exposing him to the great outdoors, even if that means sitting on your front step for ten minutes as the world goes by. He doesn't need "walks" at this age, he just needs to learn what the world is about, and he's doing that in his own time. Pushing him on too quickly might lead to anxiety down the line.
