Re: Myles swallowed an ear So pleased that the ear has reappeared. It certainly helps that dogs toys tend to be brightly coloured so easy to spot Hope Myles feels better soon.

Re: Myles swallowed an ear Glad it has appeared I had never heard the one about Tatze eating the poo-filled bag Why, Tatze? ??? ;D

Not to be read over a meal or even a biscuit and cuppa ... On a walk round the res, Gypsy found a yukky bag which had very sloppy stinky poo in it and falling out of it. I told her to 'leave it' and she did. Foolishly, instead of picking it up with one of my poo bags, I flug it into some rocks thinking I'd pick it up on the way back. This is something I never do - but with it being so yukky (and someone else's!) I really didn't fancy carrying it all the way with me. So I flung it. What did Tatze do? You've guessed! : ??? :-\ Anyway - it came out of Tatze's other end wrapped in her poo! Bleugh bleugh - what a subject!!
Mags, that is such an impressive list. Does Tatze have something against her lead in general?
No - she loves it! So much that she licks her lips when it comes out! : :
Re: Myles swallowed an ear That's worse than I imagined - never imagined it was some other dog's poo Tatze, you are some girl!! (glad I'm not in the least bit squeamish )

Re: Myles swallowed an ear Well I thought we were all past our little episode once the ear passed. He swallowed it Wednesday morning and didn't show signs of distress until Wednesday evening. By then I could just tell he was slightly off and probably not feeling well. He ate ok, went on a walk. But he just started to seem withdrawn, not playful, and slightly whimpering. When he doesn't feel well he tries to stay away from me ( ) He was still like this Thursday morning, but then around noon he passed the ear and almost like clockwork all seemed to just be perfectly fine. Was back to normal, happy, playful self all last night and most of today. He had a little diarrhea late yesterday so I held back food until I could get him some chicken and rice today. Again he is eating fine. Poos are fine. But he's acting withdrawn again. Lays by the back door, wants to be let outside but he goes out and just sits in the grass. His normal is to want to be in same room with me (usually at my feet or up against me with a toy) so this is very odd to me. I'll see how he is in the morning, just concerning. The last few days he has just been on and off again. :-\ One side note, he seems to have a runny nose that just showed up today. May try vet tomorrow.
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Definitely call the vet if your instinct is telling you something is off. Worth the peace of mind!
Re: Myles swallowed an ear I have a rule - as soon as I think "should I take my dog to the vet?" I take my dog to the vet. Better safe than sorry and all that.
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Sounds like a trip to the vet would be a good idea, if only for peace of mind. Myles doesn't sound a very happy boy at the moment
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Yes - lethargy in a dog is a sign that something is not right. Hope it's something simple xx
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Oh I hope it's just a blip and he is OK now...just catching up with the ear saga!
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Thanks all. Of course this morning he seems perfectly fine. Big appetite, normal poo (sorry we can talk about poo on here right? ), tackled me on the floor earlier when I was egging him on. He is currently chewing on a $7 bully stick that he will be interested in for 1 hr then never touch again. I should say, energy level is tricky to monitor with this pup. He's rarely ever at a level 10. He's pretty chill, very watchful and observant boy, and I am often trying to figure out what will excite him (hence all my training woes!) . While I think Wednesday night he was feeling ill, I do wonder if last night he was just tired (also was a warm day here, and he tends to just be slower on warm days). I am watching him closely and will take him in if this start to head in another direction.
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Sounds possibly a combination of events that have made Myles feel poorly what with eating an ear from his toy and then the weather being warm when you don't feel so good. Fingers crossed that he is better and enjoys his bully stick ;D
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Could he have snuck something else to eat? I had to do a bit of a chop job on a bunch of Maisie's toys as she has started chewing bits off (never did before!) so everything with ears had to have a bit of a … surgery. I did this after I saw her chewing on a giraffe's ears, then discovered the giraffe only had one intact ear. The other one was gone. Once her current toys are destroyed past th point of recognition, she is only getting "go dog" toys as those are the only ones that seem to hold up properly. You can always telephone your vet, offer the symptoms, and see if they recommend a visit or not. This is a good intermediate between making an appointment. Whenever I phone they are able to give me advice about whether or not to come in. If they say not to bring her in just yet, they also usually give me a list of symptoms that, if she develops them, should lead to her being brought in right away or earlier than planned. So that' really helpful!
Re: Myles swallowed an ear Maisesmomma, yes I've been doing the same and getting rid of toys that he should not eat parts of. That was a first but I'm on to him now and watching more closely. He really seems fine today, I think he was just tired last night and I was overly cautious because of the days before. He's perky and playful and in a good mood today . Good idea about the vet and I will keep that in mind before taking him (as you know he hates the car :-\ )
