I decided to have another go with Charlie's nails as we had cleaned teeth and ears, well a boys gotta look his best ;D yeah front right foot fully trimmed no problem, just so long as there was plenty of dried fish cubes on offer, over in a jiffy :) :) Left foot tomorrow. This might seem like a silly question but do I trim the back feet as the nails don't touch the ground like his front ones? :-\ x

I trim all four paws as Penny's get quite long. She's always been fine with me doing her nails but I remember when I was getting the rabbits used to having theirs done!! It took me a week to do all four feet as I did like two nails a night!!

The ferrets would be a complete nightmare if it wasn't for a smear of malt paste on their tummies. You can do *anything* with a ferret when it has malt paste on its tummy ;D

We've never had trouble trimming nails on our dogs or our cats...and have done to each when they are quite young...along with the open your mouth thing...so no matter the size of the critter...we can easily do whatever needs done with an open mouth or to any of the four feet! ;D I worked at a vet clinic in high school, and one of my assignments was to do the nail trims when they came in....you learn much about gentle and humane restraints, and how much to cut off, and how to do it FAST! ;D ;D

Now my mom on the other hand...her old dog it took 2 people to hold him down and one person to trim! Every dog since that one, she spends extra time as puppies playing with their feet. ::)

That's hilarious! I love the way they're wedged in between the sofa cushions. I think I could have watched hours of that.....therapeutic :D

Their little masks are so cool, they look like they're up to mischief permanently!

They are so cute. :D I had an encounter with a polecat or probably more likely a polecat x ferret hybrid just before Christmas. I found it in my field but sadly it was badly injured. I caught it and took it to my vet but sadly it could not be saved and the vet had to put it to sleep. :'( This was the little chap. Such a beautiful creature.

That looks like a pure ferret to me! They look remarkable similar, but the most noticeable difference is ferrets have light ears and polecats have dark ears. That looks just like my Fidget with the freckles on his nose.

Polecats are also generally very aggressive, whereas ferrets are playful (although they can still give you a good nip if they're not trained, but it's all in good spirits!).

Poor little man - so sad he didn't make it :(

    Wow, he was beautiful!

I have never had to trim a dog's claws (apart from dew claws), but I have trimmed rabbits' claws, and budgies claws and beaks! Now, that took some nerve, as doing it wrong would not have been good.

I trimmed Albert's for the first time today. He's a choccy so hard to see the quick. But he's an angel and very trusting so I thought I'd give it a go. I only trimmed a bit off each nail and he was brilliant. A bit fidgety at first, but he had a good sniff of the clippers and a good few bits of smoked mackerel and job done! And because I only cut a smidgeon off I wasn't worried about him bleeding to death!
