I am so upset and absolutely furious - poor Poppy got bitten today. We were out walking, and a group of people with three ridgebacks and a Wemaraner came towards us, all the dogs off the lead. The dogs surrounded Poppy, who did her normal submissive thing of rolling on her back. I walked past, saying calmly "good dogs, good dogs" - suddenly I heard Poppy screaming and she ran to me shrieking and crying - she had been bitten on her side.

The people were awful - didn't apologize, demanded to see the bite wound as they didn't believe she'd been bitten, taped our whole conversation on their phone... Yes, we were very upset, but they were so arrogant and supercilious, it was awful. I was in tears, OH was furious, Poppy was shaking and crying. I got their names - looked her up on the Internet and she is a local breeder and "animal communicator", whatever the blazes that may be.

We went to the emergency vet and poor Pops had to have the bite stapled shut. She will be fine; but I am so very upset - poor Poppy who never, ever pushes her weight around with other dogs, ganged up on by that group, all far bigger than she is. She's obviously in some pain now. Bloody people - why weren't their damned dogs on the lead?? As soon as I get the vet bill I am sending it to her.

I have photos and I'll post them tomorrow - can't post them off my iPad.

Oh Karen that I so awful. Poor Poppy and you and Oh. Can you make a complaint about them to the local authorities. It's lucky Poppy's injury isn't worse. I think the fact that they recorded the conversation is very telling. Obviously has happened before. Hugs to you and gentle licks from Juno x

I'm so sorry to hear this - that's absolutely awful. I absolutely hate groups of dogs surrounding a single dog, I think it is an awful thing to allow dogs to do. I think it really brings out bullying behaviour in the dogs that are together, it's asking for trouble. So many people allow dogs to do this though!

Just seen the photo on Facebook........awful, absolutely awful for all of you. A deep bite too . I really hope Poppy isn't in too much pain and this doesn't have an impact on her.
I'm glad you got their details......I would be contacting the dog warden or some authority about this.
Hope you manage to relax. But tonight, big hugs xx

Oh my word, that is horrible! Poor, good, Poppy and poor you, too. I hope it doesn't leave any lasting issues with other dogs. None of you deserved that. I would definitely be reporting her.

Oh no, poor Poppy. Good thing you got her name. If she has a website presence and a dog business I guess that bodes well for her paying the Vet bill. I hope.

Now will you try to find nice big dogs for Poppy to meet so she can "get back on the horse?"
