Need advice on Ecollar training using stim, vibration:Dog Pulling, jumping, counter surfing, barking.

Of course there are tons of videos and some PDF files out there but I do not see any that really address in a step by step fashion (most have a trained dog in the video) to help prevent:

I found training on Come, Stay..... The rest just do not address it in a simple fashion

    Dog Pulling

    Barking

    Dog jumping on people

Dog getting up on hind legs to counter surf.

Thanks for any advice. Would like to try myself with good advice before I go to a trainer.

    Thank you

    Peter

    Dear Peter,

Welcome to the forum, I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with your dog's behavior.

Please may I refer you to our Forum Guidelines, and particularly the bit about punishment based training. We firmly believe that aversives, including electronic collars, have no place in modern dog training - you can read more about why here, and here. And we remove all posts which promote them.

That said, we've got lots of brilliant resources on our main site which will help you train your dog with out force or punishment. They all work by showing the dog what we do want them to do, and making it rewarding, rather than punishing all the things we don't want, and leaving the dog to keep guessing what they should do instead. It's a much happier way to work for everyone involved, and there's an overwhelming amount of evidence now that dogs not only learn quicker in this way, but also remember what they've learned more reliably. So it's a win-win all round :)

Here are the resources which address the behaviors you've mentioned:

How To Train Your Lab To Sit In Easy Steps

How To Teach A Dog To Stay

How To Stop Your Labrador Pulling On The Lead

How To Stop Your Labrador Barking - Click For Quiet

No More Jumping Up - How To Stop Your Labrador Leaping On People

I hope you enjoy reading them - do let us know how you get on!

E collars are illegal here in Wales, UK, due to the suffering they cause. Their use carries a large fine or prison sentence. You don’t need violence , you need to understand dogs. Please reconsider, there are some very useful resources listed by Sarah to give you a humane alternative.
