Neutering puppy at 9 weeks old

I was planning to rescue a lab puppy but found out the dog must be neutered first. He is about 9 weeks old. I am very aware of the current research on spaying/neutering labs and goldens before at least 1 year old and I'm having second thoughts about adopting. Has anyone had a lab neutered this early and did the pup develop healthy problems.
