I got Charlie on Saturday, he had his first vaccination on Monday, and went to (indoor) puppy school on Tuesday (he was far too young to learn anything, but got lots of cuddles and treats from strangers and met 8 other puppies).

The puppy school was recommended by the local vet, and everyone turned up with a bit of paper saying the vet had examined the puppy, given it at least one vaccination, and judged the puppy to be in good health. If you didn't have your bit of paper, you weren't allowed in.

I didn't give going a second thought at the time...hmmm...maybe I should have though.

Thanks for the useful article! We're getting our pup next Friday and first lot of vaccinations are the following Monday so after that it would be relatively safe to allow the pup to socialise in the garden with a fully vaccinated "friendly" dog!

Also if your pup showed a fear response to something in this critical socialisation stage what's the best way to deal with it? Is it best to ignore it and carry on as normal or is that too mean?!

Try and reduce the power of the fearful stimulus. So, get further away from it, or diminish it in some other way, then distract the puppy with treats or toys at that 'level' until he loses his fear. Then gradually move closer. :)

When the Guide Dog puppy arrives I will be expected to take it out from day 1 - but to carry it until fully vaccinated, which is not 'till 16 weeks (they have three) - it'll be pretty heavy by then!!

(I have bought a baby sling off ebay to save my back!)

Of course it will be allowed to walk in non-dog areas like supermarkets, but our pets are not allowed in such places, so it's harder. I took Tatze out on pavements after her first jab, but waited for her second before we went on grass or in very busy doggy areas.

    :)

    July.

It could come next week but Mr Boogs is away and I finish work on 5th July 'till September. Then I will be working 2 days a week, so Mr Boogs has also been registered as a puppy walker because he'll be doing the honours on those days :)

It feels like a long wait!!

I bet it does! It'll soon pass though, really looking forward to hearing your adventures. :)
