Whoop, Willow's buster collar arrived yesterday. I have plenty of time to get her used to it before she gets spayed in March. I'm going to put it on her at lunch times, when she gets her raw meal, so she associates it with good things. I shall take some pictures when she next has it on
Re: New Buster collar They don't always need a Buster collar. Molly didn't have one when she was spayed last April. Her wound was closed with 'superglue', I guess it irritates less than stitches. You certainly think ahead. ;D
Re: New Buster collar I know, I'm hoping she won't, but if she does, it's best to have her used to it now. I'll be putting in on Shadow, too, because you never know what might happen in the future where it may come in handy that he's comfortable in it. I like to be prepared and if it's never necessary, it's no big deal - we'll put it down to a handling exercise
Re: New Buster collar Hi Fiona, Maisie didn't need one either, however, from a handling exercise for the future I think that's a great idea! You are so organised !! 8)
Re: New Buster collar Well, living here it takes AGES to get stuff delivered so I couldn't really wait to see if I need it or not. I've learnt to be preemptive over the years I'm really not looking forward to her spay, because Shadow will be moving in with a friend during Willow's recuperation. It's only a couple of doors away, so I'll still be taking him out for walks and feeding him every day but I'll miss my little man
Re: New Buster collar It's an inflatable collar that stops them turning their heads to worry their stitches, but without restricting their vision - http://amzn.to/1BYeKk7
Re: New Buster collar Oh, it looks nicer than a cone. My cat had a cone for a few days recently and it was agony to watch. Maybe I should get a buster for Chepi's spay in Feb.
Re: New Buster collar Harley had a buster collar when she was bitten and needed staples on the inside of her back leg. She never even bothered with the injury or staples she only wore the collar if I needed to pop out. One day I took it off her when I got home, left it on the sofa, went to make a coffee, came back to find Harley had popped it and was throwing it around like a toy ;D
Re: New Buster collar My girl came home from the vets with a buster collar on Friday from being spayed and so far the only time she's worn it has been at night when nobody can watch her. She never really cleans herself though and so far she hasn't even looked at it so we're pretty lucky that she can lie around and recover in comfort because she really does not like the collar. She bashes into everything and can't get comfortable in her crate with it on so hopefully you getting your dog used to the collar before her operation will make it a much more pleasant experience for her!
