I bought three new dummies at the CLA game fair at the weekend. Not the usual canvas dummies but these plastic dummies which are shaped differently. I already had one like it and was really impressed with it so I splashed out and bought some more. I think they are American and I know that some American retriever trainers swear by them. Not cheap but worth it. The dogs obviously like them ;D
Re: New Dummies Thanks Lynne. No, not heavy at all. I carry them all in my training vest, all the dogs really love them. Here is another picture of Murffi this morning with the largest of the dummies.
Re: New Dummies Just Googled Avery HexaBumper Hunting Dog Training Dummies and don't seem to be able to find any suppliers in this country. Can you recall which company was selling them?
Re: New Dummies Lovely pics - Murffi's face, very nice pic - his face is so full of expression, makes you wonder what he is thinking.

Re: New Dummies Love the 'road test' photos I know that this is probably a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but what are you looking for in a good dummy? I guess that what is 'good' might depend on the stage of training too...?
Re: New Dummies Rachael, these dummies are especially designed for the dogs to carry them without mouthing them or rolling them or biting down on them like you will sometimes see with canvas dummies and especially with tennis balls. One company even calls them Soft Mouth Trainers. I like the way I can throw them, much further than a normal dummy, the fact that they can also be used in water, they won't sink and I also like the colours. The black and white ones are very visible to the dogs when they spin through the air and make marking a bit easier I think. And the orange one is easy to spot for me which helps with a dog like Murffi who blends into the undergrowth. It helps me to see if he has actually picked the dummy or needs direction.
Re: New Dummies Here is Caddie with the small black and white dummy. Sorry, video a bit shaky at one point. I'm multitasking, filming and throwing dummy at the same time. ;D http://youtu.be/aNMOu5Ebtow
Re: New Dummies lovely video, how proud he looks, .....might invest in one of them , the idea of no bite on them appeals to me
I'll have to trawl the Internet a bit. One of our dummies sank without a trace the other day - it had bite marks in it due to over-enthusiasm on Poppy's part, and I think water got in and soaked the sawdust... So a Soft Mouth Trainer could be just what I need! Daughter lives in the US and is coming to visit in ten days... Hmmm... Ok, off to Uncle Google!!!
Re: New Dummies I found them on the Quest website....am thinking about them to see if they help avoid chomping. Riley definitely chomps tennis balls and I'd like to try and fix that bad habit.
Re: New Dummies They are available via Amazon in the US -DTSystems, Soft Mouth Trainer, 2x2x10.8 inches, sound about right Heidrun?
Not a lot, Julie! ;D
Don't spoil my imagined Murffi! Excited, slightly bonkers, a tad obsessive, very clever, a little cunning ... I reckon he thinks a lot (ok, might be simple thoughts... but still...) - love the way you can feel you get to know the dogs on the forum ;D ;D
Re: New Dummies Oh the first lot I found were size 'small'. Have also found regular and jumbo. Am going to order regular, pack of three. Must remember to warn daughter that I have ordered them to be sent to her address, and to tell her they are dummies for retrieving, NOT sex toys!!!!!! ;D

But I love him dearly! ;D
