Hello all, We are new to the forums and just adopted this fine looking 100lb young guy from a local shelter. He is a little shy but has an easygoing personality and already knows basic commands. We are still working on a name (pick up Friday) before he comes home. I was wondering if anyone knows what he looks to be mixed with? We are guessing maybe hound? We are excited to begin our journey and have been reading posts and gathering great useful information. Looking forward to posting our progress as we look to train him as a therapy dog. Thank you all!
Welcome to the forum! You new boy is handsome. Have the rescue organisation told you he’s a cross? Maybe he does look a little bit houndy. Also ever so slightly Rhodesian Ridgeback-y. But some purebred Labradors do look like that if they’re from working/field type lines...they can have a bit of a houndy head, feet, tail, coat and ears (probably way back there would’ve been hounds of various kinds that went into the creation of some strains of Labrador). He looks to me as if he’s within the range of what Labradors look like, so he might not actually be a cross. His coat does look a bit silvery, which could indicate a cross (eg. Weimeraner) and even a bit bi-coloured though that could just be the pic.
He's gorgeous. He looks quite lab, but his colour and face remind me of a Catahoula that was in one of our training classes. I could also see the Rhodesian Ridgeback that @Oberon mentioned.
Hi and welcome. He certainly is a handsome lad. Look forward to hearing about his training and life with you.
Hello there and welcome to the forum! A very handsome chap indeed... 100lbs is quite heavy for a labrador, so I would guess he is a cross with some other large breed... Good luck for the pickup on Friday, and looking forward to updates!
Welcome, what a super looking pup. I look forward to hearing how you are getting on with him when he comes home to you.
Welcome to you from Mags, Tatze and Keir from Manchester UK Tatze is my pet dog, a black Lab and she's four years old. Tatze means 'paw' in German. Keir is my fifth Guide Dog puppy, a yellow Golden Retriever/Flatcoat cross and he's seven months old.
