Hi All! New here and mom to 13 week old Diggy Smalls and 5 year old Summit, both black labs. Summit, the older one, is the best, most amazing creature and we can only hope that Diggy turns out half as good. The biggest (really the ONLY!) complaint we have about Diggy is his lack of bladder control. He can hold it for about 3 hours in his crate during the day and make it almost all night. He really CAN make it all night, but pees all over us the minute we pick him up out of his crate, so we let him out once overnight. Out of his crate during the day we let him out every 15 minutes or so and he STILL has lots of accidents. It's driving me bonkers. He has been treated for an infection, so that shouldn't be the issue. We treat him when he goes outside. He just seems to be a late bloomer on the bladder front. I'd love to know if there are others our there who have struggled with this and when it started to improve. He is our third lab puppy and the easiest in terms of biting, sleeping, other training, but the slowest with the house training.
Hi, some puppies take a while to realise they should be going outside. I know some pups who are toilet trained within a few weeks and others where it has taken a few months. The fact that he has had a UTI May mean that he takes a bit longer. Do you use an enzyme cleaner where he was been in the house? Normal household cleaners have immonia in which smell like wee to digs which will encourage him to go there.
Yes - they are widdle monsters! I forget every time I get a new pupster! Here is lots of good advice - https://www.thelabradorsite.com/house-training-your-labrador-puppy/
Hi there and welcome! You'll get through this phase, though it does seem like it's going to last forever at the time!
We were similiar with Jax at that age, although possibly not quite as much, but stick with the 15 mins as much as you can and with us, it just sort of stopped one day. After that an accident was only once or twice a week for a couple of weeks and then pretty much stopped. He's 6 months now and i have to get him up in the morning to go out for toilet, normally about 6, but he is cool waiting for his walk at 0630 if needs be. It will get better soon if you stick with it.
