That picture looks like normal chestnuts. Are they the same thing, with the prickly casing and the long serrated leaves?
I think they're the same thing. I used to play conkers in the UK when I was a kid then we moved to Australia and I saw them in the veggies part of the supermarket???? What???
No, they're a different thing. Conkers are horse chestnuts, the eating ones are sweet chestnuts. Horse chestnuts are poisonous (or so I was always told as a kid). Conkers are a lot bigger and a lot harder. Generally far prettier, as they have a nice lustre and colour to them.
@Dexter just saying I was once bitten by a tiny spider that lived in a conker shell. I was walking in the park one Autumn when my boys were little. Anyway my hand swelled right up and I ended up in A&E. Don't want to frighten you, just take care
Spiders....not my favourite things. One of the reasons I'm glad I live in a place where we have small(ish) and basically non-poisonous spiders. I Could.Not. do tarantulas. Our condo in Palm Desert often has black widow spiders in it for some reason. Needless to say I do not go in the garage... I've always wondered what conkers are. We have no chestnuts here, horse or otherwise.
