Hi, When we picked Lola up from the breeder she advised to carry on feeding her 4 times a day with puppy biscuits soaked in water ( EUKANUBA BRAND ) with some tripe from a tin our vet advised to just give her the biscuits as the meat is pointless at this stage? Just wondered what everybody else went for ? Thanks Bill
Dog food is becoming more and more a mystery to me the more I look into it! But I'm surprised the vet thinks meat is pointless though, at any age. I'm wondering is the Eukanuba a complete food? If so, and it is a balanced diet in itself, perhaps the vet means that the tripe is unnecessary. Just a thought.
It is a minefield , this dog food lark ! I know that most kibbles are a complete food, but I always add to it, for both of ours , totally not necessary but I like them to have a variety ! Sam has Skinners duck and rice , I lower the amount recommended because he has raw food added plus lightly cooked veggies , dogs cant break down the cell walls of raw veg , so I cook it for a couple of minutes . Sometimes he has raw fish and once a week he has sardines ( canned ) in tomato sauce . Tiny Nell has Fishmongers Friend kibble as its very small pieces , plus the extras that Sam has . Looking back to when I was a child , our working dogs had lots of bones and scraps , all the leftovers because there were no commercial foods , much more simple back then !
Wasn't it just! I'm in the process of changing Cassie's food, and yes, a minefield. I too look back and remember our family spaniel who lived to nearly 15 on household scraps , with barely a visit to the vet! Sorry @Billycarey , I'm digressing on your post.
haha no worries just want to make sure she's eating well, although it looks to me she's doing just fine!! (check new profile pic)
Coco's kibble is a "complete food". So is his canned meat. We mix them for variety (for human benefit most probably). Lola looks so lovely.
We had Bailey on a complete kibble diet until he was nearly a year old - but he was never keen on it. Now he has a raw diet and loves it
