What about 'touch a target with your nose'. The 'target' can be anything - but one idea is to tape a small jar lid to the end of a stick. C&T for touching the lid with the nose. Then you can start moving it around a bit so it's down lower, or to the side, or up a bit higher. Eventually you can use the lid on its own to get him to take up a position away from you (e.g. you can train 'go to your lid, touch it, and sit down'. People use this method to train the 'send away' in obedience where the dog has to go about 50m away from you and sit in a certain spot on the ground. You don't have to do all that though - you can just teach him to touch the lid :)

You could also teach him to bow, which is the same as teaching a down, but you lightly put your hand under their tummy to stop them going down with their back legs. Use a different hand position to the one you use for 'down' lure his front end to the ground, so he doesn't confuse it with the down signal. For the bow I have my hand in a fist except I have my pointer finger pointing down to the ground. (For the down I have a flat hand held parallel to the ground). Add a verbal cue "bow". You can gradually shift the hand signal so that you do it close to your body and add a physical bow (i.e. you bow) as the cue. Then you are both bowing to each other :)

Ah, that's what you meant by 'nod' :)

You could teach him to ring a bell with his paw or nose.

Our lot help with tidying up their toys (of which there are far too many!). I shout "tidy up time!", and they rush around like mad men picking up a toy, and bringing it back to me at the toy box. They'll get a treat when the toy goes in the box, and then they race off to find another one to exchange for another toy.

Our old boy, many years ago, used to cover his face like a shy boy, so we turned that into a party piece too. Say "wheres the shy boy" and he'd hide his face with his paws. Gorgeous boy. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of him doing it.

Harry does a "creepy crawl", crawling very low down so 'they' don't see us. And a complete roll over. With his hair flying everywhere it doesn't look very gratious, but he's a cutie doing it!

If you tell me that Harry does tricks like that you've got to expect me to ask for a video!I bought a book of brain games at the weekend and shy boy is in there so I'm going to have a go......we've got figure of 8 through my legs( but no walking yet as suggested by Rachael!)And through tunnels and under the garden chairs ,so going to try crawling too!

this was what I found them doing after the paddling pool, don't think we are any threat to any agility champions but they were enjoying themselves!

Would he watch telly? Serious suggestion!! I can put a video of Charlie and Harry playing together on the telly, and Charlie will watch it over and over again on a loop! Or any dog barking on a programme, she loves it.

Don't be silly. I'm not past level 3 myself... :-\

Although she has moved the windows toolbar of the computer up to the side of the screen instead of at the bottom and I have no clue what keys she stood on to do it! That'll teach me to cuddle and type at the same time eh.
