Ok I have been giving this a lot of thought. Usually this time of the year I start thinking, ok in the new year I am going to, 1) Lose weight 2) Be more careful with my spending it lasts till about the 2nd of January when I demolish a whole box of chocolates after skinting myself in the sales! This year will be different. My new years resolution is going to be puppy training. I have let Rolo's training slip especially in the last week or so with all the xmas organising I have been doing. I have been reading Pippas articles and feel we need to work on a good sit (not 100% there to be honest), stopping pulling (definitely a huge issue), a firm recall (reasonable but introduce another dog and you can forget it) and an emergency/urgent stop. I am going to be more organised with my training schedule and may even do a spreadsheet to plan our activites (thank you snowbunny) this resolution is going to last all year long and unlike my usual resolutions the rewards I will see in Rolo will be well worth the effort. What will your new years resolution be?
Re: New year's resolutions. Mine will be not to make any Every year , I promise myself to conquer a fear ( even thought of a parachute jump ) , do this or don't do that, but my resolve is weak , so its better not making myself a promise that I know I`ll break Good luck on the puppy training , now that's a very good resolution x
Re: New year's resolutions. This years new year resolution was to train the stop whistle and miracle of miracles I did . Both of my dogs have a very reliable stop. ;D ;D ;D
Re: New year's resolutions. 1. Give up chocolate for the month of January 1a. Learn to use my gift off Santa (a new flash speedlight for my camera) 2. Complete decluttering by 1st Jan 2016 ??? 3. Get into a better routine with the pooches, I tend to do the first walk at 10am and want to get that much earlier as Gypsy will have to work much harder in the afternoons, now she's over six months old 4. Buy a gorgeous outfit for my son's wedding in June ;D 5. Learn to check my posts so I don't have to edit them for typos! :
Re: New year's resolutions. Step up my stop whistle........ Whipit and other focus games to distract 'the hunt' 'Commando' on cue ( Chris's request : ) Teach the new agility equipment ........ I'm cheating a bit as I know I will do all of these.......there should be something about me in there, some serious self improvement, blimey, where to start! ;D
Re: New year's resolutions. I don't make any New Year resolutions, really. I do have sort of goals though. In 2015, I'd like Charlie and me to be good enough to attend an advanced training week. Which is a bit optimistic, I think, but he's 22 months now, and hope to make lots of progress in the next 8 months before he is 2.5 before the summer training camps... I'd also like to take him to Clicker Expo in October, but only if I get a dog training place. The training places sell out in a flash, and although I could have got an observer ticket this year (people who couldn't go were selling their tickets) I couldn't get any training places. So I suppose I already have a resolution is to check the Clicker Expo webpage every day!
Thirded and fourthed with my two. I'll start stockpiling the gin for my sanity right now Resolutions are similar to the other training ones mentioned, although I don't need New Year to do that; I love training my pups anyway. I do want to start getting back to the gym, though, and now I'm confident that they're happy while I'm away, I can get back to that once the madness of the season is over.
Re: New year's resolutions. I love training Rolo, so rewarding but don't feel I do enough of it.
1.
