I have two 13 month labs male (brothers). One still does both his business during the night. I know which one because he stays in his bed for at least an hour whilst his brother runs out and does both outside. They did stop together at about 7/8 months then this started about 2 months ago. I am getting up earlier and earlier (last night 4.30am) and he has still done iy and I don't believe it is only just. I think it has been an hour or more. I have tried changing feeding times but no change. They are on dry feed (royal Canin) good quality. I am thinking of going to once a day feed to try and correct but maybe think they are too young yet for that. Any advice? Had dogs before but not this problem, well only if there was a tummy problem!
Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. What time do your dogs get fed currently? And what time are their walks? Have you tried putting the toileting on cue? Do you take your "problem" dog outside last thing at night? Sorry for all the questions!
Hello Mike and welcome. My boy dog is on Royal Canin and his last feed is at 4.30 pm. The food should take about 6 hours to go through your dog. Fred is 2 now and my OH takes him out last time at night, around 12 midnight.
Thanks for replies. The dogs get fed at approx. 6.45am and 4.45pm. They are walked about an hour after feeding and they are let out the back a couple of times in the evening and just before bedtime 10.00-10.30pm for about 30 mins. Owing to other commitments I cannot often walk them after 5pm. My wife works from home so dogs generally have freedom to come and go outside as they wish. UPDATE: Since my post I acted on suggestion of third party and erected their pup tents in the house for overnight use to restrict them and low and behold nothing else since, so hoping now that is it. Seems more like a laziness (easy option) problem.
Hi Mike, just wanted to say hi. Hope the problem has stayed solved. I am intrigued as to what a "pup tent" is?
