Hi any advice greatly received please.
We got Moxey at 8 wks old & is more or less toilet trained through the day. Our problem being at bedtime. Moxey is now 20 weeks old, he sleeps in his bed in the kitchen, no fuss all night but he still is messing. Go to bed around 10.30 pm and if I wakeup say around 1am I go down & he's dry, I praise him let him out then go back to bed, I might wake up again around 4am do same again but when I get up at 8am he's done wee & poo?
I ignored him put him outside cleaned up , continued to ignore him & left him in kitchen again for an hr.
I've been told should be able to go most of night now but he had been out at 4am then did his business between then & 8am that's only 4 hrs? I'm off work for 10 days now & really want to crack getting him to go all night even though I do get up anyway. Many thanks

Only advice I can think of is to beat him to it to break the habit. If you know he always goes between 4 and 8, maybe go to him at 6, if he’s still clean go a bit later, say 615 and keep bumping the times back till it gets to the time you are wanting to get up. Same with the times in the middle of the night, aim to let him out before any accidents happen then gradually stretch out the periods in between. He will get there, don’t be put off by how long he ‘should’ be able to go for, they’re all different. Mine is nearly 6months and we are currently working on getting him to sleep past 6am, so far the pup is winning hands down!

From your post it sounds like he’s not crated - crating is really helpful for potty training issues, as he would cry to let you know when he needs out. I agree with m1n - if this is happening nightly, you need to get up before him and take him out. Both my puppies had to go out late at night and early morning throughout potty training and eventually it settles into a more predictable pattern. Both always had to go out around 6am until they were closer to 6 months, no matter the last potty break.

I'd push his 1am break back to 2am and try 5am instead of 4am. I'd also agree with putting him in a crate at night until this habit is broken.

Thanks everyone for your tips. I've been getting up at 5.30 & he's been dry & went outside did both toilets , then dry again when came down at 8.30. However this morning went down 5.40 as trying to increase the time but he'd done his toilet. So back to 5.30 and just keep at this time for a couple weeks & try again a bit later, do you think?
With regards crate training, he was in one from 8 wks but started doing his toilet in there at around 12 wks & thats when we thought better if he had the kitchen to sleep in. We were using training mats but I've got rid of them as they say they get used to them.
Perseverance & he'll crack it soon hopefully
