Hello, My chocolate lab pup, Beau, is now 9 1/2 weeks old and everything is going pretty well, mostly because The Happy Puppy is an amazing book and a huge help for us. We have been so diligent about putting him in his potty place outside that he now whines at the back door when he has to go. We're so proud Our problem has been mostly with loose stools. The breeder wormed and treated for parasites but the parasites have persisted. Our new vet has put him on another round of meds and we're hoping they work because we are up several times a night taking him to the bathroom. As expected, we're thrashed from lack of sleep! And we're NOT young! We feed him his last meal at 6:00 pm but he is still pooping 9-10 hours later!! Has anyone had this problem?? Tired in Chico
Hello there! Not sure if this has been asked and answered elsewhere. I think I would be pretty pooped if I was us more than once at night too. I guess if he still has parasites, then any other suggestions (such as "is it the food"?) are a bit academic, you will need to wait until they are clear to know what his "normal stool is". Is he crated, or have a pen, or next to your bed at night? Just wondering in the short term giving him an inside poop spot in a playpen set-up could maybe be helpful. Although most people on here find crating useful, for some it just doesn't work, and a crate in a larger room or playpen with outside crate (but inside pen/room) "facilities" can help with night time toileting issues before the bladder or bowels are mature enough to cope. its just a thought. I do hope this is short lived and you get some of your sanity back x
Hi, I'd be shattered too, poor you and Beau. The only other thing I would try is reducing the amount of food you feed him a bit. Often (if you are feeding kibble) the suggested amount is too much and can give loose poops. It's difficult though as said in previous post for you to know what he would poop like without the parisites. I hope you all get some rest soon and the pesky parisites get cleared up.
