    Hi all,

A little under 2 weeks to go until we collect Harvey and I'm still digesting every bit of information that I can get my hands on to help everything go as smoothly as possible for him and for us.

I've been reading through 'Total recall' and one thing sprung to mind last night - will all this 'pip-pip-pip-pip-pip' on the whistle upset the neighbours?! Anybody else here live close by to their neighbours and use the whistle on a regular basis? (Shouldn't be an issue for the indoor exercises - I'm thinking of the ones in the back garden). Perhaps I'll skip recall training outside for the 6.15am sessions! ;)

Hi there, I wouldnt give it a moment's thought. MUCH better for your neighbours to have a well trained dog that comes to the whistle, than one that you are constantly yelling at, or that barks all the time!!! ;)

Every time I used the whistle or clicker in the garden, the next door's dog would start yapping and so I had to give it up!

You can blow the whistle quite softly and save the louder blasts for other situations. I tend to do that anyway with my spaniels which are usually quite close to me and well within earshot of a soft whistle command. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll use the soft whistle approach.

My OH constantly tells me to be quiet in the garden, for fear of annoying the neighbours. Which I think is a cheek, as their kids always have an incredibly noisy game of football each evening just when I want a quiet glass of wine in the garden! And I would never dream of asking the kids to be quiet in their own garden. So I just carry on, but try not too make it too early.

Ah I'd love you to be my neighbour Uncle Bob with your lovely well trained Labrador.....in fact I'd love puppy Harvey as a neighbour even if he is a little bundle of mischief......I don't think the whistle is too disruptive,I've got one of the acme ones and I don't think its intrusive ......my Husband might disagree...when i was doing the Total Recall excercises and trying to catch Dexter in a snooze,I managed to catch grumpy pants too....at least he was a grumpy pants when I woke him up from his siesta....don't know what he was moaning for,I made him a cuppa! :)

And have you tried proofing your husband's recall in different scenarios? Work up gradually to a call away from the Saturday afternoon footie on TV! ;)
