Hello, hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday. We are expecting a blizzard tomorrow so thought I would get this in before!
My puppy Cooper (almost 11 months yellow Lab) has had a black nose from day one. I am noticing that it is changing to a lighter color....seems almost pinkish/brown.....is this usual? I dont mind one way or the other but just wonder if this does happen.
    Thanks.

Harley's nose always used to be jet black, but in the last few months it has gone pinker....she's now 17 months old. I have been told it is normal ;)

Hi! Yes it's normal! Maisie's nose was black and has changed to a pinkish brown over the last few months. I posted the same question a while ago!

Thank you. So interesting, isn't it??? Probably the same as baby's eyes....some start out blue and then they change color.

Shadow's nose was black when we had him, but as he's growing, it's going browner. I put it down to it getting bigger and so the pigment having to go further ;)

I think the colour of the nose is determined by a gene, so if it's brown now, it wouldn't have been truly black before, just a very dark brown. I may be wrong, though!

I'm sure I read somewhere that it is also something that tends to happen in winter - with lack of sunshine - like a reverse suntan!

You are right Rosie....even in our climate,Dexters goes a lighter colour in our 'winter'....I'll have a look for a thread where we've discussed it before....I bet Rachael explained it properly x

This is so interesting!! So lack of sunlight and/or being more indoors is the culprit.
It truly is quite fascinating. Thanks for all the replies.....frankly, dont mind what color his nose is but was curious. Now I know!
