So pleased the op went well; I expect she will be feeling very sorry for herself when you collect her but by tomorrow she should be feeling so much better. Thank goodness you have good work colleagues it makes such a difference.

By my watch you should have Harley home with you now.

What an awful day for you all.

Bless that little spot that took you to the Vet's in the first place.

Gosh, just got in and seen this whole thread! Lots of love to you and Harley - wonderful news that you caught it early (someone is looking out for that pretty girl!). Pongo has gone pale with worry and says he promises to be Very Very Gentle when he sees her next. He has been practicing his swimming so next time he won't half-drown her when he says hello.

    Re: Not good :(

Thank you all for all your support today. It has been very emotional ;(
Yes, I am lucky to have good friends and colleagues who will cover me at work :)
We are home now :) When she came out of the vets she was very wobbly on her legs, but we made it the 50 yards to the car.
Whilst in surgery they also found she had a hernia so have repaired that at the same time! This has meant that her scar is longer than normal. They done a complete 'hysterectomy' and found a few 'pus' pockets. So, all done, I am glad that I took her in this morning, even if it was for a lump on her head!!
Harley is currently asleep on her bed :) she is looking very sorry for herself :(
I'm sleeping downstairs with her for the next few days :)
Harley looks forward to swimming with Pongo and a benson and chasing balls with Holly very soon x

Just to add, for all owners of an entire bitch, it is important to check out any vaginal discharge that occurs outside of a normal season. And especially in the few weeks after a season has finished. This kind of discharge is not normal in dogs.

Around a quarter of unspayed bitches will get pyometra in their lifetime and the risk increases with every passing season. Many if not most bitch owners are not aware of this.

I think I'll put a sticky up about this one. It is quite a scary and common illness.

Good idea Pippa, I was going to suggest that.

Glad she's home safely. Very unfortunate to have this experience in such a young bitch, it's normally a more mature bitch illness. Averting the risk of pyometra is such a good reason to spay.
