Re: Not good We had a very restless night hubby decided to sleep downstairs with her as he was worried about my back. At 4.15am he came to get me as she kept crying and pacing. He turnt around and lo and behold she had followed him up the stairs . I ended up on the floor with her in our bedroom from 5am and she slept for 2 hours. Got hubby to carry her downstairs before he went to work. She's very restless this morning - she's had a small amount of breakfast and her antibiotics and is currently dozing. She keeps grunting and grinning every time she moves ;( I'm still beating myself up for not realising how poorly she was...how did I not notice!! I usually notice any little thing that happens with her ;(
Re: Not good Charlie was very out of sorts after anaesthetic (and he had a fair few) and extremely so after surgery. He picked up though. Hopefully she'll soon be more like herself.
Re: Not good Oh Naya don't beat yourself up about it, these things happen and can be easily missed. Just be glad that it was caught in time and she will soon make a full recovery and never know any different! My mums dog was really bad for the first 24 hours after her anaesthetic for her Spey, I cant blame them really as it can be disorientating especially as you can't explain to them what's happened. She will soon be feeling better - by tonight I would bet she's nearly back to normal
Re: Not good I remember how awful I felt after a general anaesthetic and I understood completely what was going on. It must be very confusing for our dogs. I'm sure she'll be feeling better soon. Pyo isn't known as a silent killer for nothing, don't beat yourself up *hugs*
Re: Not good Only just seen this thread, havent been on the site for a couple of weeks. So glad Harley is ok, must have been so scary for you! X
Re: Not good Do not beat yourself up most of us are not vets and can't be expected to know every sign or symptom, you did the right thing for Harley. I hope she starts to feel better today.xx
Re: Not good There's no point dwelling on it. Be grateful that you have a vigilant vet, learn the lesson, and move on. After Holly was spayed she was very dopey and confused for the first 24 hours. The fun started when the anaesthetic wore off because Holly decided that everything was normal and she could act like a loon again. Keeping her calm while the stitches healed required a lot of patience.
Re: Not good Rather than beating yourself up about it, congratulate yourself on being a caring vigilant owner. You took her to the vet's for something else, if you hadn't it would have been so much worse. Of course she's unsettled, just think of what she's experienced in the last 24 hours. It would confuse an adult.
Re: Not good Don't beat yourself up, that is the last thing you should do!!!!! How many of us would realise there was a problem with the slight symptoms she presented, I am sure that once she started to look a bit unwell and gone off her food you would have been at the vets pronto. I hope she settles more this morning, however, if you are concerned phone the vet and have a word with him/her.
Re: Not good Naya, I agree with the others. Don't beat yourself up about it. Something like that is not easy to notice. Harley is probably sore and sleepy from the op so don't worry. From what I can remember when megs was spayed, we too had restless night with her. Poor Harley also has infection so she's probably not feeling great because of that. Please let us know how she goes. Lots of hugs to you both.
Re: Not good Thank you x Harley is still asleep, she has got her new blanket on DSC_1304 by ternayacummings, on Flickr
Re: Not good Oh bless her heart , but as the others have said , you werent to know , at least you got her to the Vets and its all over now . My Sam was a nightmare after his GA for castration , unsettled and crying , I just think they dont like the confusion , I`m sure your lovely girl will soon bounce back to health again xx
Re: Not good Big pats to Harley. The anaesthetic can make them feel a bit odd too. She will steadily improve though and she'll be right as rain You mustn't feel guilty for not having a crystal ball to have seen this coming. Dogs are experts at hiding a problem. The fact is - you did take her to the vet because you noticed something different about her, you did notice the discharge and mentioned it and because of you she is now going to be 100% fine You saved her life.
Re: Not good Absolutely Rachael,I hope she's seemed a little less restless as the day has gone by,gosh, she looks just like Dexter lying there. She is a lucky girl to be owned by you and your family and she will be as right as rain soon x
