You might like to look at this site, it has some really interesting information on diet and natural anti inflammatorys, written by a vet, and lots of information on correct exercise, to add to all your research, hope you find it useful. Its, Dr Dobias natural healing, google it.

At 16 weeks my Lab's elbow was screwed and pinned, he is now nearly 8 and so far no signs of osteoarthritis, the only thing that shows is he tends to slightly throw his leg out when he runs. I give him Synoquin daily recommended by the surgeon at the time and he has been on this since the op. So there is every hope your pups will end up as well as he is.

A friend has had both her Labs elbows done and he ended up as a Field Trial Champion and is still very sound.

Lynette, so glad you have posted up again - I have been a bit worried about you and your dilemma.
I guess you are relieved having actually made a decision. Uncertainty is so hard to deal with.
Good on you! - your girls are definitely lucky to have you. :)

On a practical note, does your insurance cover the costs? - if not, I am sure we could help with some ideas. Don't want to intrude on personal issues, but if you need help, don't be afraid to ask - I am involved with a couple of dog groups on Facebook (for instance) that raise money for dogs in need.
    Just a thought - hope you aren't offended. :-\

Hi Lynette, it must be such a relief for you and your husband to have been able to make a decision about your pups. I wish you all every success with the operations and months ahead. What lucky little girls they are to have you both. I will be thinking about you and keeping everything crossed. My very best wishes xxxxxxx

Hi Lynette, I am so glad you have come to a decision, and a hard one at that. You and your husband are so brave and are obviously very loving and caring people.
I hope you do continue he to pursue the breeders (the local papers suggestion is really good, and could help with donations if it would help you?).
I will keep everything crossed on Wednesday for both pups.
    Big licks from Harley :p

Hello all, Im SO sorry I havent replied to the personal emails I have received, I cant seem to work out how to reply im afraid ... it says Im not allowed? Please dont think I am not acknowledging you, I so appreciate your words - Kate & Helen but I cant see how I respond - I assume its because Im a newbie?

Kate, Im so sorry about your dog, I can imagine what you had to go through to make that decision, being in love with your animals is the biggest heart tug, they come second to my little boy and I can see everyone on here feels the same about their animals as me ...

Helen, I intend to take action re. the breeder and certainly do not want to allow her to continue breeding esp as she has told me that has kept one of the pups for this purpose (grrrrrrrr!) I think once the emotions of tomorrow are out of the way and I have got my head around the pups not being here for a while we will get some advice on next steps and will call the breeder again tomorrow to see what response I get. I have been asked if we can be filmed by Channel 4 who are doing a documentary on Fitzpatrick currently but im not sure what their angle is and if they will follow up on the breeder for us, they filmed our first consultation and have since called me to see if they can use Beaux and Bella as a case study ... this could be an opportunity to expose the breeder but i dont think this is what they are interested in ... what this space!

As regards supporting us financially that sounds amazing ... it looks like we may get cover for £12,000 but we have been told a min of £20,000 for both dogs (!!!) so we have a shortfall of £8,000. we plan to use our savings to cover it and I dont feel comfortable taking others money but if anyone has any ideas on raising money then I am open to them so thank you for the support - what do Facebook clubs do, as Id be silly not to ask further. I am going to park my work for 4 months ( I work for myself from home) in order to be here for the girls so that will have a financial impact but Im not sure how comfortable we are asking for others hard earned cash, we are fortunate enought to have the savings to cover the shortfall at the moment.

Thank you all again for your support, I am dreading tomorrow ... the girls are asleep next to me as I write and Im trying very hard to not feel guilty for what I know awaits. A week away from us and from one another is going to be hard, I just wish I could tell them we have no choice in this. Beaux is quite anxious already, follows me to the toilet, whines if I leave the room, she is also being sick at the moment and has lost weight, i think its the new painkillers they started her on .... if only people could see the impact of this on the animal, its heartbreaking ... argghhh I can only pray now that god is going to look after these two for me whilst i cant.

thank you everyone again for your support, it means so much xxx

Perhaps Channel 4 will contribute some money toward the op as they are using you as a case study?

I will be thinking of you tomorrow.x

Thinking of you all here too. You will get through it. I admire you hugely for what you are doing.

Although you can't explain it all to the girls, I am 100% sure that if you could sit down and discuss all the options with them, this is the one they would want.

Hi, all the best for tomorrow's operations. Prayer is an underrated thing; God is awesome and more powerful than we can imagine. He is more than able to protect you and your girls tomorrow. I will be praying that you feel His presence and peace in whatever outcome the end of tomorrow brings. Xx

    Wow. Just wow.

What a truly dreadful situation for you and the pups. In these situations the not knowing is the worst thing - our imaginations focus on the negative aspects and tend to run riot with all of the potentially bad things that could happen. Typically, once we have made our mind up about what we are doing our imagination calms down again and we feel much better about the situation. I hope that is the case for you.

As for the breeder, well ... Would the RSPCA be interested in taking action? Or the Kennel Club?

Part of me thinks that you should 'name and shame' on the forum. However, I think that might put Pippa in a difficult situation so it's probably best not to. Will C4 name them?

Fingers crossed. Keep your chin up. ;)
