Hope it all goes well try not to worry they are in good hands.

Ps my cousin met the owners of a dog that had had a hip replacement by Fitzpatrick. The surgery had gone very well and the dog had made an excellent recovery.

Re: OCD diagnosis for our 2 pups with possible hip replacement ...

Hi everyone, here's a quick update on our beautiful pups ... its been a very emotional night and day for us today as the operations yesterday were long and we await an update on them today ... Bella's operation didnt finish until 7pm last night and Beaux then went into theatre and we didnt hear news until 2am on her ... so neither of us slept.

Bella's op appears to have been successful, the hip we hope is now sorted post a DPO (double pelvic osteomy), the good news is that her elbows did not need to the PUO (Proximal ulnar osteotomy) where they need to cut the elbow bone and it looks as though she escaped with arthroscopy which is amazing and the best news we could have hoped for our girl and whilst she is weak and recovering now she is in a safe place. Beaux's op was more complicated and we were aware it might have been as her pain has been so bad - so we now know that one of her elbows was the worst it could have been with absolutely no cartilage left at all, just bone on bone, so no wonder she has not been eating and as been so terribly unhappy she must have been in absolute agony. Sadly this was our worst fear for her and she has needed to have the elbow cut and a plate put in, the other elbow was cut too but no plate. The hip op went as well as Bella's but she is by no means through the woods, I have been told that she is at the limit of what a pup can cope with now and so she is going to need to be heavily sedated for the next few days to get through - it looks as through she is also now possibly looking at 10-14 days in hospital as opposed to a few. The outcome with this op is not so good and morbidity is alot higher as is the risk of severe arthritis - so we are beside ourselves with worry for her.

I know we have done the best we can for her now and 100% believe we did the right thing, this has proved that we had no option as medication just would not have sorted this out and all we can now hope for is that she has a good few years of pain free life ahead. my worry now is the next few days as she will be weak and confused and has not been eating so I pray that she gets through the next few days ok and without too much suffering. I am busy trying to sort the house out buying non slip matt's to put everywhere and a double cage so they can be together on their return as currently they are separated. We also need to get a ramp put up in the garden for them so they dont have to use any stairs

As Im sure you will all understand my heart is totally broken today and I am struggling to hold it together, to be unable to be there for them at this point is one of the hardest part as i know they are truly suffering and this is where i have to be strong and believe they are in the best hands and it wouldnt help for them to see me now, but boy this is soooooo tough! As regards the breeder, I have to now seek advice on what we do next as we will be taking this further to do what we can to stop this happening again, Im just not sure yet what or how.

Sorry for the rushed post but I wanted to let you all know they have survived the op and your prayers are appreciated for the next few days for Beaux especially, I will keep you posted on their recovery and the outcome once we know more, thanks again everyone for allowing me to have somewhere to come to off-load :)

Lynette, have to settle for a virtual hug but please know that all our best wishes are very, very real. You are doing brilliantly - you have had the courage and the strength to make difficult decisions and you really have done everything possible. Hang on in there - don't forget to look after yourself amongst all of this. Will be thinking of you, your family and the pups. Xxxx

Lynette, I had been anxiously awaiting news so relieved to read that the ops have been done, but feel so much for you, you have probably suffered more than the pups. I used to be a veterinary nurse and I can assure you dogs don't appear to feel pain as we do (not saying they don't feel pain as they do), your pups will be on pain relief and will be nursed very well by people who will give them every loving care in your absence.

I am sorry that Bella has had more problems, you have done your very best for her.

I have a small idea what your are going through and send you my positive and caring thoughts.
