So, the last thing I say to my wonderful hubby is, please can you work on keeping them both close, don't let zoom off. Do not use their names if you are recalling...ie use "come" or whistle. Don't let them free wheel unless you release them with a cue...simple reward just use clicker and treat, using 2 or 3 treats slowly. I also asked if he could possibly take a video for me. He did. Actually 3 videos. By all accounts they had a great time. In this clip you can actually see the dogs...mostly they are just having hoolies in the woods..and he has just videoed some lovely scenery (sans dogs)
One out of four instructions followed can't be bad! Benson and Casper seem to be enjoying it - and your OH too by the sound of it!
Thought you knew better than expect OH follow instructions by now . Still on the positive side it looks as if they all enjoyed themselves
The dogs didn't really disappear and they checked back with him enthusiasm. We are taught to call the dog by name, not use come You r OH could take my dogs out anytime. On the other hand, men never do as you tell them
Looks like the lads had a great day Pretty much the state of play when David takes ours out - I have given up!! x
OK - so now for the whole story. OBVIOUSLY for the other 1 hour 12 minutes and 30 seconds of our walk, which wasn't on video they were both walking PERFECTLY to heel, off lead, and didn't put a foot wrong. It goes without saying that I had just before starting the camera, given the boys detailed instructions to run into the woods, once around the far tree, then to return to me. I had told them I would be unable to issue commands as I don't like to hear my own voice. However, as Casper is still in need of a little training, I decided to use the well known recall of 'Yippee' to help him. (I know that if I taint a 'normal' command such as 'Come' by using it incorrectly I would be in trouble.) That is all I have to say on the subject, other than they had a GREAT time. Yours sincerely. Bensons-Dad (Pinnochio)
I said to my hubby on Saturday night "don't walk Dexter past the horse and sheep tomorrow as I'm in the middle of working on this". Sunday when I asked how their walk went and where did you go? Answer "accross the field, down Power Station Rd, etc etc." The horses and sheep are on either side of Power Station Rd . Luckily Dexter ignored them and the progress I'd been making wasn't hindered. I didn't remind him of what I'd asked the night before
I gave up giving guidance on walking Juno along time ago, probably when she was around 12 weeks old . Se seems to manage incredibly well with walking with OH and when she is with me. Now if I could train OH to stop repeating my cues I would be very happy
Lol @MaccieD, I know exactly where you are coming from especially with the cues . Dexter seems to be coping well with us both too
