Re: Oh So Sick of the Bitting....
Now, if we can only work on the jumping up! No doubt that will come with maturity, but I reserve the right NOT to like it and to continue yelling 'Down' at least it feels as if I'm trying to do something.
I find sit is better than down (unless your down means off or no, of course). Charlie was a jumper-up. Not terrible, but bad enough. He ruptured his cruciate ligament. So I had no choice but to stop him. Whether you want to spend this much time on it though... No-one approach Charlie without instructions. No-one at all. I had Charlie on a lead at the back of the kitchen, my clicker and treats. Person came into view. If Charlie's feet stayed still, C&T. If not, person stepped back out of view. Then one step towards Charlie, C&T or step back. Worked up to person standing beside Charlie pretending to have a conversation with me. And Charlie's feet had stayed still. Etc etc and repeat - with dog walker, dad, SIL, brother, cleaner, friend, postman.... And repeat again, in a different room. And repeat again, with no lead but Charlie behind a barrier. And repeat again, in the vet's waiting room... It's working. I think I'd live with him jumping up though rather than spend my life doing this. :
Re: Oh So Sick of the Bitting.... Julie, you are so diligent. The way you do it is the ideal. I am far too lazy ;D

I am far too lazy ;D
I wouldn't do this if I didn't have to make sure it stopped. I don't even really mind jumping up that much...
Re: Oh So Sick of the Bitting.... True You have a powerful motivation. Still, I admire your methodical approach to it all.
Re: Oh So Sick of the Bitting.... I wish I had people who could help me do this...Simba isn't great on the no jump rule either. In his case he sees it as a suggestion, not a rule.....
;D ;D Dex jumped for a little while....we stopped it with 'off' command ( chris used to forget and say Down :...confusion of course as that sounded a bit too like lie down!) and c&t for paws on the floor....I am STILL the only person he jumps up on ......strange as I'm the one who trains him? I really should stop it but secretly : I like his greeting and he's straight down when I say off .....
Brew would like Uncle Simba to know that thanks to a non-furry grandmother who didn't want to upset her by suggesting that jumping up was not a good idea, she has discovered that these days she can reach the counter. She says she's keeping a close watch on what gets left there, and does he have any other recommendations besides a whole loaf and a pound of butter?? Clare
