What beautiful photos! Juno is just gorgeous. Love the Lake District and hoping to go up there for the end of May bank Holiday
Thanks Kate, I think she's a rather beautiful girl, but then I'm biased . We couldn't believe how busy it was everywhere and it was only mid April. In some places it was nearly impossible to park and at 10:30 in the morning. Some of the car parks we thought were also somewhat expensive. Gorgeous area though. The dogs would love a week though - all that swimming in lakes and becks, Labrador heaven
Juno is an absolutely gorgeous girl. I was only thinking today you must have had your Lake District holiday. I'm glad you all have a brilliant time it certainly is the one of the most beautiful parts of the country. I've read your thread to Mabel as we are off to Wales for three weeks in the hope that she is as sensible.
Your photos are lovely, and beautiful Juno is now Saba's pin-up girl . He would like her to teach him how to ignore all those delicious distractions! I'm envious, as every time (and I mean EVERY time) I've been to the Lake District, the rain has rained in the rainiest way possible
@Pilatelover Mabel could be nothing other than sensible Don't be fooled though, Juno has her moments Where are you off to in Wales?
@Saba's Boss Juno blushed at Saba's very kind comments and says that he is a very handsome young man She says to tell Saba that the trick to ignoring distractions is the reward of a piece of Lincolnshire sausage or a piece of beef burger or sometimes even a bit of both We were exceptionally lucky with the weather. Lots of sunshine and it got warmer day by day. We had a shower one afternoon, while sitting outside the pub, on our way back to the car after a walk but dry apart from that. Just so glad it wasn't this week we were scheduled to be away with the return of freezing weather.
@MaccieD we are off to Freshwater East (link below to the accommodation). We need to move out for a few weeks while the builders knock through from the extension into kitchen and dining room. It's been a long drawn out process (so many problems!!) and living in a building site since November has just worn too thin. Mabel and I are there for three weeks. OH is there for a week and weekends and youngest popping down in between work commitments. We are then off again for a week to New Quay in Wales which I'm really excited about, as we are hoping to visit the breeder and Mabel can meet Amber her furry mummy. I'd read that they can remember their mothers as far back as two years. Hopefully when I return by second week of June there will not be a builder in sight. While I'm away I'll research somewhere for us to meet over the summer. http://www.holidaycottages.co.uk/wales/west-wales/ysbryd-y-mor?pl=1&period=6&year=2016&sd=07052016
@Pilatelover Juno is soooo jealous of Mabel - 3 weeks of beaches and swimming. That's real heaven for a Labrador. It looks a lovely spot, and a pub close by for a little refreshment after some walking. I don't know how you've coped with the building work for so long, I don't think I could and with your operation as well. How's the recovery going? Hoping everything is on course and you're gradually getting back to full activity. I'm not sure if dogs remember people/dogs for long periods or whether they recall a smell. In my experience they certainly seem to recall dogs they haven't met for along time, or people. I do remember with my Italian Spinone meeting his mum again when he was around 2.5 and hid dad as well. His breeder was looking after Flynn for a week while we went away and he was straight up to her, but quite puppyish as well. He also met his grandma again together with an aunt but it was fun seeing him with his dad. We had met Murphy a couple of times on puppy visits so although not a dog owned by the breeder, he had been around the pups a fair bit. It was when we went to collect Flynn that we discovered that Murphy was there, everywhere that Murphy went, Flynn was one pace behind. Murphy was not the most tolerant of dogs when other entire males were around, but he had no issue with Flynn. I don't know if it was a recognition thing or not but interesting. Look forward to planning our walk and meeting you and Mabel
Juno says she has a soft spot for all young, handsome boys (toy boy or not) who make such nice comments about her
@MaccieD recovery going well thank you although I do think it has been slightly hindered by the problems with the build. Another 4-5 weeks to go and 3 of those are here in Wales. I do find dog's memories fasinating. Mabel definitely interacts with her sister differently than she does with other dogs. She will actually lick Biscuit on the side of the cheek something I've never seen her do to another dog. It's lovely as we meet up every few months for a nice walk, coffee and cake.
Good to hear that the recovery is still going well, hopefully the break in Wales away from the building work will help you on the final stretch Strange coincidence on the dogs recognising each other. I'm currently reading In Defence of Dogs by John Bradshaw, as part of my course, and I'm just easing a bit about studies reporting on puppies recognising mum etc and how long after. I'll finish reading and Lt ou know what he says..... Enjoy Wales, hopefully the weather will be improving this week to make your walks with Mabel more fun
