I adopted a seven year old lab from the local shelter last week. My cat is very angry and 'verbally' attacks her until the dog gets mad and lunges at the cat. They both act as if they hate each other. They each have a safe place - one of my two bedrooms, and I introduced them from behind closed doors. But the cat especially acts as if she is out to make trouble. She does not want this dog. Any time they see each other it is war. Getting Layla, the dog, away from the cat requires many treats. What do I do? I am seriously thinking I may have to surrender the lab and that is not a good thought.
