Re: OMG! OMG!
a stunning spaniel with FTCh parents both sides and while it's a fabulous dog it's proving hard work as a family pet.
I often wonder about that - it's not the most obvious suitable background, lots of FTChs, to choose to have in a pet, is it? But people seem to value it hugely in pets. I suppose there aren't a lot of alternatives. We've had the idea of cuddle champions before on here. Maybe there should be a competition to identify champion pets!
Re: OMG! OMG! If you are seriously thinking of getting a working cocker Julie, I would think the major thing would be to wait until Charlie is at a really solid, reliable stage of his training, since he will then be a calming influence on the new puppy. So happy that you are so delighted with your training! I love it too! Once you get the bug, it just doesnt seem to let you go...
Re: OMG! OMG!
Perhaps show cockers are easier he certainly doesnt have the hyperactive energy I think of spaniels having. You know when they dart about having a whale of a time or maybe she was lucky. Either way there are calm cockere out there we have the proof. ;D
You should meet the Gorgeous George, my sister's show cocker. The list of things he has chewed his way through is both long and expensive. The top off the gear stick in her car was an impressive one. Unfortunately his chewing habit is better than his temperament. He is - sadly - proof that if you have any doubts at all about the breeder, you should just walk away. She knows she should have done... Couldn't agree more that you go into it prepared and having researched breeders carefully!
Re: OMG! OMG!
Karen, did you do gun dog training with your other Labs?
No, this is my first dog that I have ever done any sort of official training with! The other two were pretty well behaved, but just used to play 'fetch' with me...
Re: OMG! OMG! Helen, it was obvious from the start that Poppy was very different to Bones. She comes from working stock, and from the word go was wanting to retrieve. I came on this forum to ask some advice about puppy issues. Once I started reading on here about gundog training, I realized that was what she needed to keep her happy and fulfilled, so I started looking around for a course - and the rest is history!
Re: OMG! OMG!

Would you like to 'test drive' Murffi for a week on Wimbledon common?
I love that dog! I want a dog that looks EXACTLY like Murffi! He is gorgeous. But..er...having seen what Charlie can do to the mum and toddler class on their nature walk (think skittles with a brown furry ball...) Murffi might be a step too far right now. I'd probably get a lifetime ban!
There is a lady down in Cornwall who has a half brother of Murffi. His name is Tweed and he and Murffi look like identical twins (with Murffi being just an incy wincy bit more gorgeous ) The lady uses Tweed as a stud dog and I have seen photos on Facebook of the puppies he has thrown. They are all little mini Murffis! ;D What they are temperament wise though I have no idea ....
Re: OMG! OMG!
I can see it now. The over friendly lab creating havoc with the humans, and the over hot cocker doing the same with the wildlife (and there is a fair bit, more than you'd expect).
All those Wombles, Julie...
Re: OMG! OMG!
Sold!!!!! To the lady with the chocolate lab ;D
You just KNEW I was already typing "Tweed cocker stud dog" into google didn't you? And I was... WHAT am I doing! I must be nuts... ;D ;D ;D
Re: OMG! OMG!
I am seriously bad, aren't I ?! : ;D
Incorrigible !!!
Re: OMG! OMG! Oh! Murffi....sigh...his eyes are just that little bit more gold, and his coat just a little richer conker, than Tweed....still, since Tweed only lives 5 mins from me in Cornwall, I might just pop in when I'm next down. What harm can that do? Right, off to work before I find I've gone and bought a cocker puppy already!
