Holly still in season .. two weeks in. Feels like FOREVER.. She's gone on strike and will only go to pee or poo if we take her out to the patch of grass behind our garden. We can stand there in our garden with her for ages, but she will not go. Once elsewhere she'll wee everywhere... is she saving it up to advertise her availability? I'm not sure how she can hold it for so long ..
My male Lab won't pee or poo in the garden either and he goes last at about 4.30pm when we are on a walk and doesn't go again until I take hime out at 11am! I will go in the garden and say 'have a pee' but he just won't!! So they can hold it for a long time, though not sure it is food for them!
Two weeks done, one week to go, soon be over ! She could be advertising her availability, I know Cassie wee'd on the go during her first season, not so much with the second. But yes, she can not go for amazing length of time, in season or not, especially if it's raining!
Douglas held his pee and poo for 38 hours when I was rushed into hospital.I had to come off the ward and meet OH in the Car park to get him to go. they can hold it for ages it seems to be a highly valued communication tool.
I find the length of time she can hold it quite astounding. I'm a nurse; if my patient didn't make wee wee from 10pm until 8am or (this morning after 9am!) I'd be scanning them to see if they were in retention.
Gosh, 10pm to 8am is perfectly normal for me. My record is over 24 hours - driving through France years ago when the loos were all disgusting, then a ferry where they weren't much better! By the time I got to the UK and it was only another couple of hours to get to my parents' house, it didn't seem that urgent anymore!
Getting back to the question of dogs' toilet habits for a minute , Jess is very picky about where she will poop/pee, and I also noticed that she seemed to be "saving" her pee when she was in heat, and then would pee loads of times in the same area. So there did seem to be an element of advertising availability!
You PERSONALLY???? Oh my, I cannot last more than a couple of hours (except at night, obviously).... Poppy is a great one for holding her pee, especially when stressed. When she was on heat she peed far more than normal though.
10 night time hours is a doddle. This is me every weekend morning, and it’d be every weekday too if I didn’t have to go to work.
Think there are still some areas we won’t venture into but, yeah, fair point Maybe Snowbunny and I need to drink more water, or less gin or something....
I normally drink loads of water and little else. I've been drinking the odd cup of coffee (decaf, or I go loopy) recently, and that makes me wee so much more! I like to share
As the owner of an uncastrated dog who is really interested bitches in season - they pee everywhere! Some days I'm sure there must be 50 in season, because of the amount of time Lucky spents intently sniffing every two metres and the sheer amount of froth coming out of his mouth We also have the problem with not pooing anywhere. He'll pee on any vertical surface, but he won't poo on our street or on the parallel street. So, if I think he needs to go, we have to go on a 20 minute walk to find somewhere. As for me, no way I could wait 24 hours! I drink lots of tea and coffee though, but even drinking just water I couldn't wait more then 4 hours.
