I am now on 'Come Away from a Visitor in the Garden'. After several friends letting me down again to help with this exercise I have had to use David (hubby) on his return home from work which worked really well. Charlie of course greeted him very enthusiastically in our garden which has lots of distractions and recalled beautifully to my whistle, absolutely no hesitation. Decided to seize the moment again and then used Thomas (son) on his return from Scouts and the same result, perfect My question is, is it OK to use family? I will of course use every opportunity and use 'surprise visits' from friends etc. but this is not always possible or easy and I really want to get a move on with his training, but I won't continue using family if this is incorrect in any way. His reaction to the whistle is absolutely spot on and instantaneous even before the second pip. Thanks Helen x
Re: One for Pippa I think! If Pippa isn't available, anyone that can offer advice it's always greatly received Thanks Helen x
Re: One for Pippa I think! Sounds like you are doing an absolutely excellent job. It's definitely fine to use family for this kind of exercise (or any training exercise)
Re: One for Pippa I think! Well done Helen (and Charlie). Sounds like an excellent result Some dogs are very interested in visitors and find them very exciting. If Charlie is like this, then you will benefit from practising with a visitor when you can lay your hands on one! If he prefers your husband and/or son to a 'novelty' visitor, then 'job done'. Pippa
Re: One for Pippa I think! Fantastic news, thank you Pippa. I will use any and every opportunity that presents itself believe me So proud of Charlie and his lightening response to the whistle and now the clicker which is fully charged up and ready to go with stopping the dreaded JUMPING UP at visitors to start with then progressing to 'HEEL' work as per your article. Everything crossed please ;D Thanks again. Helen x
