It's dark when Oban goes out for his bedtime pee and we have skunks here. I always go out with him and clap my hands to let the skunks know they should vamoose. LOL, a couple of times kids at the church next door clapped back. Last night out we went and the backyard light flickered and died as we stood there. But, there was a full moon, or nearly, and the ground is covered with white that reflects all the moonlight. It was almost like daylight, so, so pretty. The yard was much brighter from moonlight and snow than it ever is from the yard light. There have actually been a few times when I've been driving and needed no high beams on because the snow was so bright from reflected moonlight. Even without the moon it's so much easier to see outside at night in winter than in summer. Love snow. Unfortunately this last bit we got is doomed to melt away as temperatures climb to above normal today and the next few days. Phooey, want to keep this lovely snow.
I was thinking this the other night, when I was out walking later than normal. By the time I started heading back, it would have been pitch black only a week ago, but now it's easy to see. Our lovely dry powder went sticky and compressed overnight as the humidity rose (which is actually not a bad thing for the pistes) but we have a lot more snow due over the next few days and nights.
I have found a down-side of the cold weather, though. If I keep my whistle in my mouth, the condensation from my breath freezes inside it and it won't blow!
It is amazing how light it is at night with this full moon and the snow. Definitely makes the dark walks more bearable!
Haha, yep! I was just thinking the other night that I'm loving the warmer weather as it's so much more pleasant going out for "last wees" when it's 20 odd degrees. However, like Fiona, I also realised the downside to the change in weather as I now get eaten alive by mozzies!
Phooey, it's nearly all gone. Got up to +14.8C (~58F) yesterday. And today it was raining. We are getting warnings of flash freezing as the temperature drops again to -6C overnight. LOL, back to frozen whistles. I don't keep mine in my mouth though so not a problem for me.
