Exactly how you feel, I have a 7 year old black Great Dane. I took him to the vet 2 days before Good Friday for what I thought was a sore in his mouth, my vet advise me that it looked like cancer we did surgery number one on Good Friday it was completely removed including the perimeter around it. About two weeks after the recovery so that would be 4 weeks after his first surgery we had another one grow this time slightly lower than where the first one was. We opted not to go with chemotherapy or radiation for quality-of-life issues. We did do chest x-rays to confirm that it had not yet spread to his lungs. We've been did the second surgery on a very huge mass. This one had day use a drainage tube and the recovery was about five weeks. One week after his recovery he now has two more new growth on the same side towards his throat and another one on the opposite side. My question is when is it time? He still eats but I think he's having issues moving his jaw so I hand feed him small pieces he drinks And still has energy he will go for an occasional swim and I can still take him to the trails other and for no more than 10 minutes. The size of the grife are relatively huge probably the size of an orange and now he is scratching at them to the point where they are bleeding everywhere. I don't want him to suffer, don't know what I can do about the bleeding ? Hetakes the cone off right now I have it wrapped tourniquets style to try to get him to stop scratching and control blood calling my vet tomorrow but this is a horrible disease! The rate that it spreads and progresses is so fast! Any advice would be helpful things

Hi @Sherrille I am so sorry to hear your Great Dane is so poorly. I really can't advise in this situation. Probably best to give your vet a call. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time.

So sorry @Sherrille, this must be so hard for both of you.
I can't offer advice, just wanted to extend my thoughts and sympathies to you and your boy.

hi I am currently going through a similar situation my lab Archie is ten yrs old we found a growth took him the vets right away they took it away & a couple of teeth also . The results came back from the lab saying it was a grade three melanoma very aggressive within ten days it has come back my vet has said for nature to take its course , to look @ Archie he is fine eating drinking but can see this horrible tumour growing we are devastated as a family & just don’t know when the time will be to let him go I don’t want to see him decline but @ the same time don’t want to say goodbye don’t know what to do

I am so sorry @tony to hear Archie is poorly, and you are obviously very upset. It is good he is happy eating and drinking, despite having this tumour. A friends' dog had this and it was very hard on her, and of course her dog.
Consider his quality of life, keep in contact with your vet, and maybe think about a bucket list, for some people this has worked well, ensuring the last few days, weeks are full of very happy memories after all Archie doesn't know how poorly he is.
    Thoughts are with you x:hug:
