We are sad. As I wrote in another thread here about our Euan, we had to pts him on Monday night. He was 10 years of age. He came to us in January 2006. As I was ill for a year thinking i was suffering from a herniated disk in my c-spine and had to walk a lot to keep my pain controllable. We had a bitch lab, but as she was old, she didn't want to walk that far anymore. That's when Euan came to us. But what were we mistaken.... I happened to have a chronic condition called syringomyelia, a cyst in the spine. My ability to walk became worse. Syringomyelia is also a condition of canines, special the King Charles Spaniels can have. Neurosurgeon and vets work together to raise awareness and find a cure. Mine is idiopathic. I won't bother you further with that! So instead of making long walks what I planned to do, I stayed at home and Euan went with a dog walker. After 4 years the bitch died and we only had Euan for a couple of years. Two years ago we bought Finn, as a companion for Euan. Euan was 8 years old and Finn 6 month when we went on a vacation to Germany. We booked a dog friendly hotel for we didn't want to leave them behind. We never learned our dogs to climb the stairs. In this particular hotel we had to climb one stairway. I had troubles with it and so did Euan. In that weekend he twisted his back and screamed! When we came home we went to the vet and she directly sent us to a specialist hospital for treatment. He had a MRI of his spine and had a herniated disk and had to be operated on for it pinched into the spine. He never has been the same after the operation and now and then still very painful. Since last summer it worsened and he was on max dosage of painkillers. Little Finn took great care of him, always went to his 'brother' to collect him when going for a walk. We have shared many good memories with him! We will cherish them! Finn is very tame. He misses Euan too. When we are going for a little walk, he still goes back for his brother. He seems to think oh no, he is not there.... Annemarie
Thank you for sharing, Ann. Rest sweetly, Euan, and run free and fast. Poor little Finn.... but he will learn soon that you are carrying Euan in your heart.
Poor Euan to suffer so much pain and discomfort, and what a lovely boy Finn is to have looked after his big brother. I'm sure he's feeling rather lost at the moment as well. Hugs to you and Finn. Run free Euan xx
No words I can say will make you feel better, but he was a wonderful friend to you all. Such special memories you will hold in your heart forever. Run free Euan.
Thanks for sharing Euans story. Run free gorgeous euan. Finn will be a comfort to you through this sad time I'm sure, hugs to you all xx
