Here is one I wrote a few years ago , very apt with regards to Millie Out of the Darkness . Eyes ,moist and sad, yet ever hopeful I cannot look for long, move swiftly on Down that never ending line I search Until I find the one . She cowers in a corner, curled in dread Of human hand , resigned to whatever fate holds in store If I had doubts , they quickly flew away One look just made me want her more . I ask to sit with her awhile , to let her see That not all our kind are cruel and bad She does not meet my eyes , I turn my head away To give her space, my heart heavy and sad . There is no doubt that she will come with me To a better place by far, and know That life is not filled with pain and hurt, but love and care I will show her the way and together we will go We sit , a thousand miles apart, me and this dog I softly say that she will sleep by me this night I slip the lead around her , she looks at me with hope As, smiling , I take her out of the darkness and into the light . Re: Out of the Darkness Kate I'm ashamed to say I've only just seen this and read it. It is absolutely lovely and reminds me of going to get Harry with my cousin from the dogs home. I spotted him sat quietly towards the back of the pen while another dog was barking and snarling at the door. I asked if we could see him even though on his notes it said he'd bitten the owners wife. He was only 6 months old there was no way he'd bitten aggressively. As soon as he came out to us he was coming home with us whether my cousin wanted or not there was no way I was going to let him go back in that cage. Harry is a wonderful dog. His only problem is loud noises. He has been easy to train and loves to please unless his terrier instinct kicks in then you wouldn't want to be rabbit. ;D. He has so far had 6 lovely years running about on a farm may there be many more. Thank you Kate.
