Re: Over excited puppy Can really relate to what you are going through Debs, much the same in this house at the moment with our 11 week old puppy but all the replies have given me hope! Some days with the lack of sleep as well it all just gets a bit too much doesn't it. Have found plastic plant pots can provide 10 minutes of distraction and fun as do kitchen roll cardboard tubes - seem to be getting through loads of kitchen roll mopping up accidents!
Re: Over excited puppy Albert also gets great fun chasing a plastic tupperware bowl around the garden/house and empty plastic water bottles too, as well as plastic plant pots. I've spent a small fortune on toys but these things are a firm favourite. Jan
Re: Over excited puppy great photos!! we used cardboard boxes as distraction too..............got very bored of cleaning up shredded cardboard but better than my clothes or hands ;D
Re: Over excited puppy What is it about the plastic plant pots??? Bones loved them until well into his dotage, and Poppy is crazy about them too!
Re: Over excited puppy After an awful day yesterday, I have had the most pleasant, happy, relaxed little puppy today with only minor crazy biting times. Looking forward to receiving my (I mean Maisie's!) kong wobbler tomorrow! Today's puppy:
Re: Over excited puppy Oh Debs shes adorable How has she been in the crate at night? A little better I hope. Let us know how you get on with the kong wobbler, they look interesting!
Re: Over excited puppy Nicola, the crate up until last night had been going well for a few days. But, last night.....Maisie slept 10pm til 3.30am (brilliant!), but did not settle after going out and protested until 4.30am when I let her out again in case she needed to wee again....no wee, and continued to cry until 5am! It was as if something was not right with her yesterday, perhaps teeth, or she was hungry? Who knows, but hoping tonight she will be more settled. She's been a real delight today
Re: Over excited puppy Sounds like she is improving (slightly). They are a lot like children though and will try and push all the buttons I was always far too soft! It will be hard to stay firm with a face like Maisie's ;D
Re: Over excited puppy What a beautiful photo Enjoy those peaceful moments! You are doing a wonderful job, Debs. Doing all the right things. The 'crocodile attack' phase will pass, promise It's a shock how incredibly bitey they are though....totally understand that you were reduced to tears. No doubt you are sleep deprived too. Under the circumstances, crying is the only sensible response. Just hang in there and it will all come right You're doing brilliantly and Maisie is a lucky girl to have such a dedicated human
Re: Over excited puppy Oh my goodness what cute pups!! Nothing useful to add except to say hang in there, soon this will be a distant memory!
Re: Over excited puppy Hi Debs - I have a little 8 week old pup too so can understand! Those little pins of teeth are painful! She's made a hole in a pair of jeans and a jumper from over excited nipping lunges at me and we've all had blood drawn on hands ouch! I find walking away tricky as she carries on jumping and nipping! But she does usually stop and sit looking puzzled and I give her some (calm) praise hehe. I'm going to look at a kong wobbler too! Hoping you have another better day with her today x
Re: Over excited puppy Just to let you know about the Kong Wobbler.....it's great. I ordered a small one, any bigger would have been too big. Maisie couldn't work out what to do with it at first, I had to keep tipping it over for her, but she really wasn't interested. Put it away for a couple of weeks and now at 11 weeks she is an expert at it! Great purchase and makes meal times more fun and last longer
Re: Over excited puppy Kong Wobblers are great. I give Molly hers outside now. She is 8 months and knocks the living daylights out of it indoors. Outside it doesn't skid so well on the grass so it takes longer. Has the added bonus that she spends ages after closely examining the lawn in case she missed just one piece of kibble
Re: Over excited puppy I gave Tatze all her meals in the wobbler for a few months partly to keep her busy and partly to stop her being such a hoover! It's a great piece of kit! I still get it out now and again
